Well, new years has come and gone. I think a good time was had by pretty much all :D. The party preparations were of course a bit last-minute and frantic. We went for overkill, which was fortunate, considering that even more people than I expected showed up. Thanks to all the people who helped out, especially Matt, Brad, Dustin, my brother, and Ben & Aaron. The sheer scale still amazes me. The massive bar was actually noticeably quite smaller afterwards. I wonder if anyone got any "before" pictures of it. At one point, I attempted to alleviate the line for the bar by making alcoholic pink lemonade. It was gone in seconds, with no noticeable effect on the line at all. All things considered, there were really very few problems and so far as I can tell no actual damage. The neighbor stopped by, but he was curious rather than pissed. Someone handed him a beer, and all was well. The police drove by, but continued on. Apparently word got around a bit or something, because at least three other people from the area also stopped by, also fortunately without incident. In addition, today the neighbor stopped by to ask if she could have some ice (no... we are very, very, very, very out of ice) and said "oh, you're the ones who had the house party. Only one person out of the sixty or more managed to get himself permanently uninvited. He probably would have been kicked out, had I been more sober and been paying more attention, but oh well.
things consumed:
around 4 liters of vodka
nearly a fifth of everclear
a couple pounds of snack mix
at least three bags of chips
over one liter of grenadine, of all things
at least two liters of midori
lots of sour mix (Murphy's law was invoked earlier that day by the phrase "there's no way we'll go through more than a gallon of sour"
several rolls of toilet paper, something I had entirely failed to anticipate. That we didn't run out was pure luck.
Things left behind:
whipped cream, in many many places, but on the TV in particular
most of a massive jug of salsa
lots and lots of napkins - I still had some from last year, now I have more
enough trash to fill the dumpster completely
someone's dirty undershirt
Things I learned for next year:
need more trashcans
need an ashtray outside
need a "shot table" somewhere away from the bar to distract people
need to figure out how to clone Matt
ice. lots of ice.
Also... those who took pictures really need to send all of them to me. I won't put up any that shouldn't be put up, but as I spent a lot of the first half running around fetching ice, I'd like to see what happened at the rest of the party :)
