Reading

There is an interesting article in the New York Times today on reading to kids and reading for fun. One of the bits "only 17 percent of all children surveyed reported having time to read a book of their choice at school daily" hit me. I had perfected the art of reading books of my choice during class early on. I can remember having to write "I will not read books in class" a hundred times (or so) as punishment in grade school and my high school German teacher complaining to my mother about my habit - although he also told her he couldn't complain too much as I was getting an A in the class. : ) I thought it was better than sitting in class bored out of my mind, napping in class or just doodling, although I also did my fair share of doodling.
