Having somehow managed to avoid RennFaire in the 4 years at CMU, I finally went today. I discovered that knife-juggling acrobats dressed in Renn garb are the hottest thing there is on this earth. The Musketeers, which I obsessed over as a kid, also look 100% better in person than in the movies. AND someone should have told me about the existence of those breathe-taking ball dresses. They are so much more beautiful and much cheaper than the damn boring white wedding dress I wore (white was a bit of a stretch anyway :P), I should have worn one of those. Damn. If I ever get married again, I will have a Renn wedding, with the dress, and the flower wreaths and noblemen and noblewomen for a wedding party. Well, live and learn. I hear these things take several tries anyway. :D
I went with Liza and her boy Nicky, and a bunch of other SCA-like folks. Everyone was gussied up, of course (except me), and Liza bought one of those masquerade ball masks. At some point I looked at her, and it really hit me how different she is from middle and high-school. It's astounding to see how she has flowered from an angsty, shy, self-conscious, unhappy teenager into a stunning, confident, and popular woman. She looked so gorgeous in her mask and matching dress, and for some reason I remembered the 8th grade (and the 9th, and 10th, and 11th, and 12th) and the contrast really amazed me.
