Memorial Day weekend has been pretty good so far. One of our big accomplishments was getting an outside light fixture and power outlet installed. Several weeks ago I had an electrician run a wire through my roof to the outside, and I finally got around to this project. Matt helped put together the fixture (standard, two spotlight job) and I attached it under the gable.
My plan was to drop a conduit down behind the deck railing for the electrical outlet (outdoor version, of course). first problem was that the 90° joint gave me a really bad angle. Off to Home Depot! All we could find there at first was a box of 50' worth of flexible conduit. The sales associate said they could not cut me a 10" piece, but pointed out a box with only 25' of conduit. It was $12, and I really didn't want to drive all over town looking for something smaller. So, I was looking for the proper end pieces when I ran across a 10" flexible conduit joint in that area ... missed it the first time around. So, we saved $9 and only got what we needed :-). After buying plants (this evening's project) and several miscellaneous items, we went back home.
The next problem was that the wire piece I bought for the conduit was shorter than I wanted. Oh well, measure twice cut once, right? The result is that the box is above the railing instead of below it. I finally got it all together, and I strung some of the soft-glow lights around the deck that I had bought three years ago for just this purpose. Later that night, I pulled out the tiki torches, Matt made pina coladas, and we had a really nice time on the deck.
In the afternoon we had gone to the mall to pick out a gift, sign up for digital cable, and buy a couple of small things. Today we went to the flea market in Raleigh and had a nice time there too. Ahhhh.... lemonade!
Looking forward to a week off work. Hope everyone else is having a great Memorial Day weekend too!
