OMFG, so EXCITED about this sequel! I like that you are giving us a Dean that is very much still in the throes of PTSD. And yay, Sammy and Bobby are right there for him. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
As a doglover myself, who has been and will again cry about my own dog's mortality, the dogicide was certainly not pleasant, but whatever it takes for good fic, I suppose.
I feel pretty guilty about the dogs. Someone who reviewed me over on FF was a tad upset by it - well, more by Bobby's attitude. I thought it would be a pretty good way to show just how damaged that boy still is... and fact Bobby is pretty ruthless about it seems to me to pretty accurately reflect the fact he's one tough old guy who has seen way worse and prioritizes accordingly.
Actually it always amused me that people protested Sam shooting the dog in Woods even though the damn thing tried to eat Dean and Sammy shot it in self-defense! My wank is the dogs were old arthritic dogs. Now they are in doggy heaven, with no arthritis, chasing giant killer rabbits. Much better off! ;-)
It certainly never fails to amaze me what people will get ruffled about.
I admit I was a little surprised by Bobby's reaction but then I was like, it's not that he treated the dogs badly but he saw them more as "tools of the trade/line of defense" than a treasured family pet - I never envisioned him curling up on the couch with them, I mean, did you see the giant chain that was on Rumsfeld in the SPN episode? That is not for your everyday lapdog.
You must have read my mind because tools of the trade was pretty much my defense over on FF! Definitely not lapdogs! I wouldn't want Rumsfeld anywhere near Dean's lap... [and you will smile at that when you read chapter 2...].
