Wow, I love this so much. It's captured the desperation and the bleakness inherent in their situation, and captured too the way that Dean, whether he likes it or not, is really co-dependent and inspires co-dependency, whether in Sam or Cas... but past the angst and sadness and sort of half-crazed intensity, it's really lovely, too, really sweet, and very sexy. So good!
Hey you! JFC, I nearly had heart failure the other week when your name was struck through! Great to see you back, and glad you liked. I did want to have a Sam-Deanish subtext in this, actually, but as you can see I've fallen for D/C hook, line and sinker. Poor future!Cas... after I read this through, I kept thinking that Dean sends him off to die, and I got all teary. Get a freaking grip, Kate...
Awww, that's so sweet of you! Thanks so much, I'm really thrilled you liked it. Who'd have thunk two hulking great six-footers could be so sentimental? I'm sure as hell not used to being this sentimental. I'm not even this sentimental about my kids, FCOL. :-O
YAY! I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW RELIEVED I AM, I NEED TO SHOUT IT, IN FACT! :-D
I so loved Cas's weary loyalty and devotion in your story, loved his acceptance of the fact he'll always go to Dean, and how Dean is essentially a part of Cas [fundamental!]: his light in the darkness, and only the other can distract them from what they've lost. It's just a lovely, lovely thing, and it was a real pleasure to write this within the framework you'd laid down. ;-)
