"We have to keep moving."
"I just want to lay here and let Mother Earth take me."
The conversation was pretty much all subtleties. Simply stated secrets. There was a lot of love, a lot of trying to understand, a lot of compassion.
"...and there was a red sun high above in the middle sky. The island dwellers worshiped it. Then one day..."
She carried on with her lullaby as though this would cure his ache. Even though it made it hurt a little more her dreams were enough to drown out the stabbing noise.
They hid in the tall grass shaded against the sun. He sat with his legs crossed and his head in his palms. She was kneeling over him. He couldn't see her but she stared at him with concern. She quieted and began to caress his hair, massaging his scalp and kissing his forehead. Softly blowing into his face he began to breath again.
"I love you, babe."
"I love you too."
It wasn't the first time, it wasn't the last, in fact it was many of plenty. But, it had never felt so good to know that he loved her.
Everything was okay then because she finally got it:
