Some questions for the writers

I've been thinking a lot on the nature of writing, what kind of effort and thought goes into it and the differences between writing something as simple as a journal entry, an editorial or a creative writing piece either in the form of a story or poem.

My question is, how does the process of writing work for you? Is there a process you recognize? or do you just sit down and begin tapping out the words? And does it ever feel like you're just receiving the information and conveying them onto paper rather than creating it from your own mind?

I've been feeling the latter when working on the story I am currently writing. Though, its going slowly; I hope to pick up the pace on it eventually but in the meantime I'd like to hear what its like for others.

I consider myself new to the entire thing. I have never considered words to be my medium, though I've been told I'm far better at writing my thoughts down than I am at speaking them. Putting my thoughts into words in the past always felt like a constant struggle for me, but it has gotten easier with time and practice. I have always been great at english in school, so I suppose that counts for something. :)

So. Comments? Anyone?
