so, what of interest has happened lately?
last thrusday, my father and i went off to Walterboro to check a few things out. He found a few things in a magazine that may be of interest to see. If anyone remembers, I worked in Walterboro for a while.
the main location was
the Great Swamp Sanctuary. something i ran accross my self on a trip. turns out the place is a tad big from what i was thinking. right now, its mostly just a few nature trails wandering about. a few signs show off some of the plant life. though, i would have liked more signs for some of the more unknown plants we saw.
only issue we had was we forgot a key thing about swamps... mosquitoes! went into an area where we got swarmed big time. stop for a second and you dissapear into the cloud with your veins sucked dry o.-.o.
ended up running in a few nice people. some we chatted with, and one i knew from work.
most of our interesting nature encounters were with insects (outside the mosquitoes). jeweled damselflies both green and blue. inchworms and a shit ton of caterpillars. weird mosaic bugs... tons of stuff. though, we did see a few turtles and fish. heard some birds. and ran into a large
copperhead in the middle of the path.
after walking every path in the place, we headed to a second location. the
Artisans Center. interesting old house filled with local crafts.. and a ~$160000 canoe! O.-.O. found a few neat things, but as with local crafts, the prices were well above what we could afford.
while there, we found a map of the downtown area listing all the shops and such. in the middle of downtown was an area simply listed as "Waterfall". we had to see what that was. turns out, its a nice little plaza with a war memorial and a giant falling wall of water.
our stomachs got the best of us and we headed over to the best barbeque place in town.. Dukes ^.-.^. a buffet with a good deal of the best local country foods. after that, home before storms popped up.
twill have to see about getting some of my photos sorted...
