So I get up and my friend asks if I wanna help run the soundboards at his sisters who owns a dance studios recital for her students of a dance version of Annie. I was like ok, I like sound boards...Well we get there start to set up and she tells us that she paid extra for the spot lights and didn't find anyone to run them for her. Well you can guess who ended up getting elected for the position. Well we went up to check out the spot lights and I should have known it was going to go rough when the first one we turned on only gave out a sickly amount of light in a circle, but the other one lit up just fine so spotlights must go on I guess... Well then all my help started to dwindle, first I went down to get some kind of cues to where and when she wanted them and got cues such as "Chairs on side" under diffrent songs, sometimes they sat there other times they danced around..so....stay on chairs or follow them... so yeah I had little to no liner notes on where she wanted the spotlight at and only around 15 min to mess around and get to learn the operations and movement of them which was really the easiest part. Second it ended up being JUST ME in the spot light booth....now we found a couple of problems with this here, 1. It was like I was deaf, I could not hear song starts and ends and had to play the spotlight by ear because of an AC vent right above me and the other spotlight that we didnt use and the fact that the fans for the lamps in them were both on and they are heavy duty cooling fans so yeah no sound... 2. Anyone that could have listened for song changes or given me directions from the lady in charge about where she wanted it ran off and ended up doing other things. I was doing my best in the situation as I always do when all my luck culmenated 3-4 songs before the finale I turn the spotlight on and start to follow somepeople (cause all my liner notes said was "Spotlight" not who to follow or where to go) and the lamp started to flicker, I thought there wasent a problem continued to follow them through the first of the songs I was needed but it continued so I shut the lamp of and went and got the matinace man, Who seemed to have run of the entire marion civic center, He messed with it for a bit it flickered a bit more then went fine but we were past all the songs that it was needed so we shut the lamp off. In my experience when it starts to flicker like that it is nearing the end of its life and will blow soon and this was one the size of a movie theater projector light bulb so I was not going to chance it breaking and being blamed on me. So that ended up being my day, I tried my best with what I was given so im ok with it. Not how I expected to spend my sunday but it was fine I guess.
