Fred Thompson's positions represent just about everything I'm against. I like him just fine on Law & Order, but shudder to think of him as our next president.

Sidenote: It never fails to amaze me how conservatives say stuff like "Hollywood values" and whatnot, yet all the actors that turn into politicians seem to be Republicans. Reagan, Sonny Bono, Schwarzennager, Thompson, etc.

Hey you forgot Fred Grandy!

I've noticed athletes do the same. Jim Bunning, Steve Largent...

It's a good article!

Also, check out these two from NPR: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5378529 and http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5378526

Haven't listened to them yet, but I'm going to. :)

*nod* I don't even have to look past his anti-choice stance, since I refuse to vote for anyone who's against abortion.

This is about to become a very interesting race. I have a feeling his campaign is going to blow Giuliani's out of the water.

...the actors that turn into politicians seem to be Republicans...

Well, the successful politicians, anyway. But some have been Dems, too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_actor-politicians

The funny thing is that Thompson gets some flack from anti-abortion groups for not being anti-choice ENOUGH, even though he consistently voted anti-choice in the Senate. I guess you have to be Sam Brownback to be "pro-life" enough for some people.

I agree that Giuliani stands to lose the most with this candidacy. I think Thompson's been polling in second place for weeks now, even though he hasn't officially been in the race until just now.

Ha! I didn't know Clint Eastwood was the mayor of anyplace. I love Wikipedia.

The right-wing Washington Times smeared him over immigration yesterday. And FoxNews is sneering at his candidacy. It's kind of fun to watch, although the reverse psychology of "FOX NEWS HATES ME!" may work in his favor...

Isn't that amazing? It's like that dead man who won the election against John Ashcroft.

Oh, sure! Eastwood was Mayor of Carmel for a couple of years. :D

I could spend DAYS reading wikipedia. It's entertaining as heck. :)

It never fails to amaze me how the staunchest conservatives end up having "Hollywood values" in the end. Larry Craig, Ed Schrock, Jeff Gannon, Ted Haggard, Mark Foley, Jim West, etc.
