~See you on the dark side of Raoul

Okay, so leaving my computer off for most of the day seems to have gotten the random stops under control, though the AC getting fixed also probably helped. I also opened it up and fiddled with the power supply cords to try and make sure everything was seated properly, so all the fans SHOULD be working. Anyway, it's more stable than it was, which is ( Read more... )

I think the thing is that fandom, especially this newer generation of fandom, doesn't quite get the difference between a good character and a good, real-life human being. Like, loving a character is NOT the same thing as approving of their actions and all. BECAUSE HEAVEN FORBID IT SEEM LIKE YOU HAVE A PROBLEMATIC FAVE hahhahah.

Ohhhhh man. Yeah. Like I remember having this horrible conversation with someone who as far as I could tell took "I like and identify with this character" (on their side) and made it into "THEREFORE THEY ARE A GOOD PERSON AND LIKE ME IN OTHER WAYS [that aren't actually specified on the show] AND HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG AND IF THEY DID IT DIDN'T COUNT BECAUSE REASONS AND SAYING THEY DID DO SOMETHING WRONG OR HAVE ANY NEGATIVE CHARACTER TRAIT IS ATTACKING ME AND ATTACKING [trait that is my headcanon]". Like holy shit, he's my fav too but I don't think that needs to mean going through and trying to justify every single bad thing he's ever done in order to make it "okay" to like him. fffffff

I don't know how "new" this really is, though. Or at least it seems pretty similar to me to things ~10-15 years ago or so except back then I never had someone try to suck me in to what in retrospect I think was probably part of a ship war.

True, true, I see your point...the only REAL difference, and again, I'm not sure how different it really is, is that it's become the sort of thing to wrap all of this up in Social Justice terminology, which makes it more annoying to me.

Yeah, that part seems new. Like the ideas are pretty much the same, but now fandom's more aware of jargon to... apply to it.

(Not that the jargon is itself that new, or shouldn't exist, or shouldn't be widely used, just. Sometimes it's way too heavy for the actual thing you're talking about.)

'cause drama

i'll PM you, just give me a bit to get it all typed up, haha. though tbh it's just your standard fandom drama I accidentally stumbled into

ETA: actually it came out kinda long, I'll email you instead 'cause lj messages have a character limit and also they're kind of not great for long paragraphs WHICH THIS HAD A LOT OF so yeah, sent it to the email address in your profile. it's kind of a downer though tbh
