~Fun with Mother 1 - Livin on easy street

Jun 17, 2015 00:23

Man I haven't felt this miserable in a while. I thought I was doing alright a day or two ago but I'm hitting a point where I want to curl up under my desk and not come out ever, which is a definite step down. Sort of teetering on the edge of randomly having tears rise up without any emotional connection responsible, but not quite there yet. Maybe ( Read more... )

Oh noooooo, I hope you feel better. I sent you something... it should get there Monday by UPS so watch your mailbox also sorry in advance about the weird packaging, I kinda... was about to mail it and then I realized stuff was shifting around in there so I was sitting in the car taping stuff up and long story short you're going to need scissors

Yeah, the theme seems really appropriate... it sounds familiar, like it was in Earthbound somewhere even though I'm not sure it was.

Oh so the Easy Ring is an item you can pick up. :o That's a good way to do it I guess. So you can just decide if you want it or not when you're playing the port.

(A POX ON LIMITED INVENTORIES)

Yeah but on the other hand it makes you REALLY appreciate games that just let you carry however much you feel like stuffing in your pockets, until you have an entire wagon train's worth of weapons, magic components, rings, pendants, potions, and armor for literally every type of enemy you might face. haha not that my character in any game that lets me do it is "world's strongest hoarder". ha... ha.

"I kinda need this kid rescued, if she dies it'll REALLY hurt my re-election chances" wow dude.

So you're not slaughtering these critters, haha. They just become tame!

Haha, just like in Earthbound. I guess you're just beating up the thing possessing them enough that it goes away. TBH I like that a lot better than like... ten year old murder machine.

...That's a little messed up, I mean you bought that bird from a pet shop so... why did the pet shop have it.

The kind of feel of this sort of line is lost when the medium changes to much I think.

Yeah, the more cartoony style means you can be quirky or silly and it isn't jarring. :o It's like... a marker for how seriously you should be taking it, I guess?

GAH Starmen already? D: Yeah I'm imagining playing this and being in the first town still and SUDDENLY, LATE-GAME ENEMY

Haha, oh I thought she was going to keep saying she had a secret she'd tell you "later" until like... after the end of the game.

Oh dang, you didn't have to send me anything :o omg thank you ;_; that's really thoughtful

And yeah, the opening theme does have a sort of familiar sound to it :O And yeah you can choose if you want to Easy Ring it or not, haha. And later on you can also unequip it once you get a ring, so you can choose when to use it or not. I'M NEVER TAKING IT OFF I've heard enough horror stories

and man no kidding I HOARD STUFF IN GAMES NONSTOP and limits like this is like aaaagh

mayors in mother have such priorities, haha

and yeah they aren't murdering animals at least |D I DO WONDER HOW THE PET SHOP GOT THE CANARY maybe it flew in by accident? i'm a bit suspicious

and yeah that's true, the cute style helps a lot with flippant lines, but it still works during serious scenes too :O it's a tough balance

AND YEAH I KNOW RIGHT I'M NOT PREPARED FOR A STARMAN (maybe this is why that starman shows up so early in EB when you're with buzzbuzz, another callback to M1?)

hahahaha super long term plan, i wouldn't be surprised |D i wasn't sure when she'd tell me! then bam, out of nowhere

huuuuuuuuugs

and then never use any of it, because what if you need it later? WHAT IF you need these 40 Kraken Soups later? Huh? what then. Haha actually I think the best thing I've seen for inventory stuff iiiiis... The Enchanted Cave 2 (dungeon crawler with optional story (it's there if you go around and talk to people and if you read stuff you find, but you can also ignore it)). You can carry as much stuff as you want BUT anything that's not marked as an artifact (some stuff is to start with, plus there's a spell to do it if you find something you really like) disappears when you leave the dungeon. So you don't end up hoarding health/mana potions so much and you actually use them. Or at least I did.

Ohhhh yeah, that's right. I wonder if that means there'll be more of them later... tougher ones. :O
