LET'S KEEP GOING

This is one of my favorite chapters because I love Duster. WHY BE COY ABOUT IT, IT'S TRUE

But ANYWAY in our last installment there was a ton of horrible trauma and sadness. WILL THERE BE TRAUMA AND SADNESS IN THIS INSTALLMENT? ROLL THE DICE AND FIND OUT!
(with this game odds are in favor of "yes")

Acck! I remember just enough about this chapter to know where this is going...man, poor Duster. Why you gotta be so harsh, Wess? (also, man I wish there was some way to grab Salsa and run when you pass by him in that scene...without creating a Time Paradox. ^^;; Although, I have to admit, I do admire how tightly scripted and interlocking the chapters of this game are.)

AND YES, I think it is fascinating how the fact that the silent protagonist thing is only in effect when you are directly in control of a character. I mean, I think the unspoken assumption in most games with silent protags is that they DO actually talk, but we the players can't 'hear' them (presumably, as you suggested, because it is easier for us to step into their shoes that way.)
(That said, as far as I'm concerned, there are some characters...like Link...who are just mute.)
SO it is interesting how this game uses that assumption...the characters all DO talk, but we only hear their words when we see them from the outside, and thus see them as the other characters see them. Also, it is an interesting way to kind of withhold information from the players in a way that is somewhat unique to this kind of game. (If that makes any sense.)

Oh, I haven't tried it yet, but I took another look at the VBA emulator site (was actually trying to find info on how to put a ROM onto a cartridge, and I just ended up there)...apparently, since the last time I checked (which was longer ago than I realized), they actually HAVE developed a version for the Mac. :o It sounds like it may have a few bugs (I came across a forum post on Starman.net talking about issues with game saves not taking), but STILL...I'll have to give it a try when I'm not so much in the middle of the semester.

I KNOW RIGHT and the next part just ramps it up and it's like aaaaa dusterrrr
AND POOR SALSA TOO
POOR EVERYONE

And yeah, it's interesting sometimes where you draw the line between "this guy talks but i don't hear him" and "this guy just doesn't talk period". Like Crono from Chrono Trigger to me is mute just in general, but the Pokemon protagonists talk, just not when I'm controlling them, you know? I wonder how people draw those lines and why, haha.
And it's true! It's a cool way to withhold stuff and make you have to imagine it yourself, in a way making you feel that much more invested, if that makes sense.

And that's awesome! I hope you can get it to work. :O IT'D BE TOTALLY WORTH IT
