This is completely off-topic (and a little late) but your icon reminded me--do you know anything about getting games to work correctly on new computers? You're a fan of the Kyrandia games too, so I thought I could ask you if it's not a problem.

Here's my situation: My mother, my sister and I have loved the Kyrandia games since we got them back in the 90s. But ever since we upgraded from our old Acer with Windows 95, the sound just doesn't work right anymore. The music is a little off when played on new machines (which isn't all that terrible) but the sad part is not hearing all the quirky voices. I know it's not a big deal, since we can still at least play the games on newer computers, but if there's a way to salvage the voices somehow we would all be very happy! It's sad not to hear anything and have to rely solely on subtitles. Yeah, Brandon's a huge whiner, but most of the other characters have fun voices that go so well with the dialog and...

Sorry, I digress. Basically, do you know how to get the voices to work with upgraded soundcards, or is there something we can download to make it work? I'm really terrible with techie stuff despite growing up and into the information age, so I'm really at a loss for this kind of thing. orz Also, if you don't have the time to help me out I totally understand since this is completely out of the blue and all.

Hmm. Have you tried running it via DOSbox at all? :O If not I can go into more detail on how to do that. Unless you're talking like, Kyrandia 3, that might be tricky.

I think my mother tried DOSbox but for some reason it didn't work well on her computer. :/ I can imagine she's not any more computer savvy than me, though. Details on DOSbox would probably help, 'cause I'm pretty sure she could have probably downloaded it wrong or something. Ha ha, actually, we have the same problem for all three games. ^^;

Hmm, what kinda computer you got? A Mac? :O Do you have the disks and everything? If you're going for the voices for Kyrandia 1, I assume you got the CD or something right? Or downloaded it anyway. Do you have a physical CD or a torrented one?

this might help as a quick dosbox primer

I'm pretty sure we all have PCs, though I'll need to ask her what kind. We do have all the disks for the games and they're all still usable. Thanks for the link! I'll be sure to read thoroughly to see if we did something wrong before. ^_^
