Babytalk magazine is receiving a lot of controversy over its latest issue, which depicts a mother breastfeeding her baby. There seems to be a common trend with Americans getting worked up over partially exposed boobs in the media. The Discovery Channel no longer shows topless women from third-world cultures, and when was the last time you saw wild animals mating on television? How prudish can this country get?
Parts of the body are only sexual when you make them sexual. I think it just shows that many people are afraid of their own dirty minds. Children aren't scarred for life after seeing a piece of Janet Jackson's breast, nor are they sexually aroused or emotionally affected from seeing a mother nursing her child. Parents aren't helping by "protecting" their children from these innocent images of the human body. Children need to learn not to be afraid of their bodies and to know which actions are appropriate and which aren't. Avoiding the issue doesn't help kids at all. Perhaps kids would be less promiscuous if parents would take the time to teach their children about these things, rather than let their children grow up and learn on their own about the sexual potential of their bodies.
