Eating at the IP

A cluttered mess-bent and torn postal boxes obstructing the path to the closet, travel bags on the floor that have yet to be unpacked, paperclips and other debris spread out on a bedroom dresser, and dirty socks lying on the edge of the bed. Lighting is dim, and the lamp’s rays never fully reach the ceiling. Buried within a heavy blanket is a young man staring out into the room, realizing just what home life really means. The perfect time to think about the day is right now, just an hour before midnight, when I’ve already done everything there is to do, and when I’m almost ready to shut my eyes and enter a dream.

My parents have grown extremely fond of Linda V and Jason. Next to Peter, they are the most well-mannered set of friends that my parents have met. They get along so well with my mom and dad, and it’s funny how easily Jason can talk to my dad and Linda V can talk to my mom. And they make such a great couple; I think they'd make really great parents.

Linda and Jason have been so nice to me these past few days. I remember barely knowing Linda V in high school, and while the friends I thought I had rarely talk to me anymore, Linda spends so much time with me these days. She and Jason are two people that I'm definitely glad to have in my life.

All of us ate dinner at the Imperial Palace this evening. Sitting at the table were Jason, Linda, my dad, my mom, Auntie Nita, Jim, and me. I complained of a toothache and my pickiness for food while Jason, Linda, and my parents fed me crab legs (because I’m too spoiled to crack crab legs myself). I ate a little too fast and felt awkward when I could barely find food at the buffet that I wanted to eat. Jason and Linda seemed to be fitting in more with my family than I was, which made me feel a little bad. Despite the cigarette smoke from surrounding tables and my cold-sensitive tooth, I had a good time.
