well for Hubby's birthday we went to the bayside expo center for their annual baby faire. my doctor gave us complimentary passes so we thought it might be worth it.
usually those faires arent' worth it at all. you pay $12 to park and then $10 per person to get in the door and you don't actually get anything. now, since it only cost us parking money, i guess it was worth it. we got there early and got to go right in and avoid the lengthy line of people waiting to buy tickets. we got some free stuff that we'll likely either lose by the time the baby is born or never use anyway. but we sat in on a few discussions given by Gerber and Playskool representatives which were interesting and informative...that along probably makes it worth it.
we only stayed a couple of hours, by then we'd seen everything we wanted to see. i used the restroom, and it was funny, the girl behind me said, "you know, at a faire specifically aimed at pregnant women, its practically a crime that we have to wait over an hour to get into the building and then stand in line again to use the bathroom." she was right...that's irony:)
when we left the line was so long it wouldn't have surprised me at all if people weren't waiting 2 hours to get in the door. i can't imagine paying $32 ($12 for parking + $20 assuming 2 adults) for the little information there was. it was barely worth the $12. well, now we know, so we won't be tempted to go next year with a 6 month old...oy!
so we left and i gave Hubby is birthday gifts and we had ice cream and took the dogs for a nice long walk and just had a nice night. we're having a birthday party type thing for him this coming weekend, it was more convenient for our friends...
we also saw "Inside Man" this weekend. very good movie. i heart Clive Owen! but it has become a practice for movies to like to leave lots of loose ends. a few movies have done this successfully, so naturally now everyone is doing it, but to varying degrees of success. this particular movie left the "why" unanswered which i found annoying. i mean here was this beautifully intricate plot, that really did beg to have a few loose ends left...but not "why." i needed to know why, otherwise i care a lot less. its one thing not to maybe know "how" or "when" or something...but "why?" this is important information, especially given the nature of the plot. so while i definately recommend the flick, i leave you with the parting comment 'don't blame me if you're frustrated.' you've been warned!
