Busy & Productive December for the Dresden Files!

Dec 26, 2007 16:12

So many good things this month!!!

NOTE: The Not-So-Good Things - Writer's Strike continues, still being ignored by Sci-Fi/NBC Uni - will be covered when I'm in a grumpier mood.

Top 10 SF Shows on Cable Poll was posted on Slice of Sci Fi on November 25th. On November 26th, the Dresden Files had 15 votes (1 vote allowed per computer) for 5% - tied with Eureka for 7th/8th place.

  • By November 29th, the Dresden Files had garnered 164 votes for 24% - 1st Place with Firefly a close 2nd at 20.5%!
  • The votes kept coming throughout December as more viewers and fans found out about the site! As of today, the Dresden Files has 318 votes for over 32% of the total votes - still in 1st Place with Firefly in 2nd with 17%!!

People's Choice Buzz Poll (#190) was posted on or about December 1st, asking: "The Sci-Fi channel's November ratings were its highest yet. Which show have you been tuning in for?" The choices being: Ghost Hunters, Dresden Files, or Flash Gordon.
  • On December 6th, 3,567 votes had been cast: Ghost Hunters 62%, Dresden Files 25%, and Flash Gordon 13%.
  • By December 10th with just 1 day of voting remaining, 9,082 votes had been cast: Ghost Hunters 46%, Dresden Files 45%! Tensions were high!!
  • On December 11th with only hours left for voting, nearly 10,000 votes had been cast: Dresden Files 46%, Ghost Hunters 45%!!
Who would win - the much promoted Ghost Hunters or the much loved Dresden Files??!
  • December 11 at 8 pm the Poll closed! Over 10,287 votes were cast: Dresden Files 47%, Ghost Hunters 44%, and the much promoted Flash Gordon 9%.

    The Dresden Files WON!!!!

Why? Because it is an excellent show that has attracted viewers from all genre - not just science fiction fans. The Dresden Files won because it is quality entertainment and there's precious little of that left on television these days.

December 7th was the last scheduled repeat of the Dresden Files. Originally, according the the Scifi.com schedule, there were to be repeats from the middle of November through December, but the schedule was wrong - causing MUCH confusion - and later changed.

  • We held a View-In on the forum at scifi.com - a virtual Sit-In - to show the Execs at Sci-Fi that viewers were watching whether they were being counted by Nielsen or not.
  • The View-In was a huge success with a high of 89 users on the Dresden Files Forum: 29 members and 60 guests with 384 posts on 20 pages in just 1-1/2 hours!!!
  • The Ratings for December 7th show that the Dresden Files was in the Sci-Fi Channel'sTop 10!!

December 9th saw the 8,000th signature on the New Home 4 Dresden Petition!!

  • The Petition was started on August 4th, so in just 4 months, 8,000 viewers and fans have found the Petition and taken the time to sign it!
  • As of today, there are 8,356 signatures from 68 countries!!
  • Star Trek Enterprise's Petition has a little over 16,000 signatures in 2-1/2 YEARS - we already have 1/2 that in a little over 4 MONTHS!

The Chicago Tribune's The Watcher posted her list of the Top Ten TV Shows of 2007 on December 14 and her list of 2007's Worst TV Shows on December 19.
  • The Dresden Files was a runner up to the Top 10!
  • Painkiller Jane and Flash Gordon were both on the 2007's Worst list.

A written reply was received from Lionsgate on December 8th a by at least two of our Dresden Files letter-writing fans!  The letters were not a Cease-&-Desist-Your-Cause-Is-Hopeless ones (thank goodness!). Instead the letters were/are especially encouraging and for several reasons:
  • Money is tight for the entertainment industry, yet Lionsgate showed respect for its customers and sent a reply that required postage to at least two TDF fans.
  • Our message is apparently being heard, as the letter states that the Dresden Files "has received a great deal of popular attention".
  • Lionsgate is apparently still open & willing to create more seasons and hope for renewal is apparently still alive or the reply "has not, as yet been renewed. We hope that it may someday soon return to air" most likely would have been more like: 'unfortunately there are no plans for a second season/renewal at this time/or in the foreseeable future.'
  • Also, the episodes on DVD were still referred to as 'season one'.

Plus, we've held DVD View-Ins on each Friday since the last episode on December 7th and have had great turnouts depsite the hugely busy month full of Holiday celebrations!

All in all, a very good month, indeed! Now, if Sci-Fi/NBC Uni would give their viewers/customers a lovely Holiday/New Years' gift of Season 2, there would be thousands of happy customers around the world in 2008!!!
