p/s: I suggest you to listen to this while reading this fic.

“So, you are a rookie lawyer?”

One question popped out as Tachibana Sawa looked blankly at the glass she is holding. The clank sounds of ice hitting the glass when she twirled her drink a bit serves as the silent distraction as she prepped the words to answer the sudden question. “Yes, I am.”

“Ah, no wonder I haven’t seen you before.”

“I started working two months ago after graduating from the law school,” Sawa took a sip of her drink. “How about you? Since when you become a police officer? Correction, an elite police officer?”

“How do you know I am an elite?”

“C’mon. the whole Tokyo know your family, Kitazawa-san,” Sawa turned to her side, facing the fine looking man who had her company since she stepped inside the bar thirty minutes ago. “Even if you did not pass me your card, I still know who you are.”

Kitazawa Shunsaku gave the young woman a small smirk. “Then, by looking at me, how long do you think I had worked as an officer?” he dared. Their eyes met, their smiles never fade away from their face. “Use your deduction skills, miss lawyer.”

“You are a rookie just like me,” was Sawa’s reply. Then, a silence. Both of them enjoyed their drink while listening to the music played by the live band at the small stage across the bar. The silence is deadly Sawa thought it was awkward. But when Shunsaku called the bartender to add another shot, Sawa was sure she could lay all her cards tonight.

Especially when her mind was occupied with all sorts of information and findings about her dissociative identity disorder’s fiancée, Okumuri Rei who is currently serving in jail for murdering his own father 12 years ago. Sawa wants to prove to the juries that her fiancée is not at fault and he needed a mental treatment instead of being in prison. The case is still ongoing with Sawa herself as Rei’s lawyer. Her trance falls off as she saw another glass being given to her. She looked up to see Shunsaku smiled at her.

“I am not that good in reading body language but I am sure you need another drink and one rant session,” Shunsaku took a sip of his drink.

“You’re implying that you are staying?”

“A beautiful girl like you should be not staying here alone, especially when there are frowns on your face,” Shunsaku reasoned out. “I maybe sound flirting to you but trust me, I’m not. I just born with a totally sweet tongue.”

Sawa laughed heartily. It’s been too long since she last laughed like that. “I know I can trust you, Ki-“

“Just call me Shunsaku, then,” Shunsaku cut her words. “We’re in a bar, outside our working hours so let’s be informal. And I’ll call you Sawa-chan, is it okay?”

There’s something about Shunsaku’s manners that tickled her little girl’s heart. He is giving the attention Sawa need and it made her felt happy and overwhelmed.

Lose yourself, Sawa. When will you have a break after weeks of immersing yourself into Rei’s case?

“That reminds me of one thing. You are the lawyer who currently handling Okumuri’s case, right?” Sawa startled by Shunsaku’s statement. “Rumours has it, you had a romantic relationship with him.”

Sawa gulped a bit.

“I read portals and news aside catching culprits, Sawa-chan, don’t show me your surprised face. This case is all over country. Everyone knows it,” Shunsaku took another sip. “Cannot say that I am not interested with the progress. One thing makes me curious. Why do you offered yourself being his lawyer?”

“Why do you want to become a police officer once you come out from Todai, Shunsaku-san?” Sawa shot back, despite hiding her nervous gesture of being asked the question she herself don’t know the exact answer. Also, she started to feel at ease with his presence around her. Another silence surrounding both of them, but Sawa can see the smile never leave Shunsaku’s handsome face at all.

Who is he, actually? Why he seems like at ease when his job is way worse than me?

“Let’s just say that I like being the ally of justice, Sawa-chan. It’s something I wanted to do even before I entered Todai. Enrolling in Todai brings more advantages to me to become more keen on doing my job. You see, when you have the power, the authorities to do what you want, you are able to manage yourself well without depending on others. And being a police officer despite my education background as a Todai leaver, I see nothing wrong in that. I am free to do whatever I want. Of course, with valid and proper instructions from my superiors,” Shunsaku spoke confidently. “As for you, do you really want to be a lawyer? Or you just enrol into the law school because you don’t want to lose your ‘daddy’s little girl’ title?”

Sawa totally don’t buy the slight insult Shunsaku had thrown to her.

“You know, it’s a taboo to have any links with your client. Even doctors are not allowed to perform any operation to his or her family members if they need one in hospitals. So why you want to be a defender for a murderer who happens to be your husband-to-be?”

“Because I love him so much,” Shunsaku blinked at Sawa’s sudden response. “He has a mental disorder though. I believe he didn’t do that because he wanted to. That is because he had to do that. His father is abusive,” Sawa’s voice broke, indicating that she had keep her tears from falling. “I’ve had enough of people out there blindly pointing the blame to him for killing and hiding his father’s corpse for 12 years. He didn’t do it on purpose. He had to do that.”

“But the judge had sentenced a punishment to him, right?”

“Not yet, because I am about to submit a plead to lessen his punishment. Also suggesting him for a mental treatment because of the trauma he had.”

“Let’s just being honest, Sawa-chan. After what had happened to him, do you still want to marry him?” Shunsaku looked at her straight in the eye.

“Let’s just being honest, Shunsaku-kun. What do you know about this case?” Sawa retorted back. “You seems like you know more than me, which I am not surprised at all.”

Then another sound of ice clanking inside the glass coming out, breaking the awkward silence. Shunsaku just let the silence engulfing both of them. To Sawa’s surprise, he is actually too calm for a police officer. But actually the thing is, Shunsaku knew Sawa had her emotions bottled up inside her body and he is waiting for the time when she bursts out. She almost done that, but she kept it inside, again. “It does not matter whether I know more or not. Instead of spreading false facts, I prefer hearing the truth, and who else have the truth other than you? You should see yourself now, you are about to burst out your own feelings right there,” he gave her another glass. “We have all night, Sawa-chan. I did say that I am staying, right?”

To his surprise, Sawa nodded. “Just, not here,” she replied audibly, amid of the music inside the bar. She looked around for any empty lounge available in the bar. “We go over there,” she then got up with her glass, walking to the empty lounge just across the bar with the young police officer followed her suit. Getting inside the lounge, the pair settled down and make themselves comfortable before Sawa lay all her cards for Shunsaku to see.

And it’s wasn’t easy to stay calm after listening to the young woman’s rants. Every rants just bring the young officer close to Sawa, as she started to had her body shook in anger and sadness combined.

That is what you get from bottling up your problems for so long.

Sawa is totally in her most vulnerable state right now and Shunsaku just cannot leave her alone. “You are keeping this for oh so long I am glad you finally talk about it to anyone, Sawa-chan. After all the negative attention you get, all you need is someone who listens to you,” Shunsaku said to the young lawyer in his arms; God knows when did Sawa end up in his arms and he had no complains. Sawa buried her face onto that tailored material covering Shunsaku’s whole figure, muffling her cries.

It took moments before Sawa totally calmed down, her arms still wrapping around Shunsaku’s waist. Too comfortable to let go, she silently thought. She knew what had she done right now is wrong, but the small golden band on her ring finger is malfunctioning at the moment. Minutes ago she confessed that she loves her fiancée so much and there she is now, muttering two words that could change her life forever.

“Kiss me.”

They had all night, and the whole night is the only time Sawa needed to gather all the attention she deserves.

Omake:

It was supposed to be a ‘cut’.

But no one in the room dared to say or even voice out anything. Not even the director, Satoru Nakajima.

What power do both Yamada Ryosuke and Kawaguchi Haruna have to make the rest of the staffs stunned at their place watching both of them being lovey-dovey in front of the camera?

Maybe because they had a great chemistry no fan seems to move on from it since 2013.

Or maybe they just look good to each other.

“Perhaps you had someone informed you that the whole NTV office ship them so much?” Nakajima was startled to hear his AD’s voice next to him. His attention comes back to the pair who is now still looking at each other after their kiss.

“Ok that is a cut!” Nakajima felt like he is the most cruellest person in the world because he just interrupted a couple’s moment. He can hear the rest of the staffs groaned in frustration. “I’m sorry I had to!” he announced, making the staffs laughed hard, including the couple. While his staffs are busy preparing for the next ‘Momikeshite Fuyu’ filming in 3 hours, Nakajima made his way to the young couple. “Otsukare, both of you,” he said to the couple.

“Otsukare~” they both reply in unison. The director sighed in relief seeing both of the actors he used to work before had grown up before his eyes.

“Nakajima-san, we thought we had the scene ended earlier,” Haruna stated, breaking his trance. Nakajima smiled sheepishly, he had not seen the response coming.

“Yeah, I thought the same too,” come Ryosuke’s voice.

“Ah well, you know that feeling when the director is too engrossed in his masterpiece he forgot about the time?” Nakajima defended himself. Both Haruna and Ryosuke laughed a bit in response. “But really, the last time I had seen both of you is when you are in your last teenage years and … look at both of you now. All grown up. I myself had no idea that both of you are an item now, my AD told me about both of you anyway. He meant to keep that secret but yeah he told me the whole office shipped both of you,” the director playfully side-eyed the couple, making Haruna blush. “On a serious note, Kawaguchi-chan, thank you for accepting my offer to guest star in one episode of ‘Momikesi’. Your presence is much appreciated.”

Haruna smiled. “If it is not because this brat boyfriend of mine keep persuading me to come to ‘Momikesu’, I won’t be here,” she looked at Ryosuke, giggling as the idol pinched her nose affectionately. “But I’m looking forward for the rest of the drama, Nakajima-san. It should be lit!”

“You have my word, Kawaguchi-chan,” Nakajima then excused himself, leaving the couple alone. Ryosuke nodded before he glanced at the young actress in his arms.

“Brat boyfriend of yours, hm?” Ryosuke mimicking Haruna’s statement just now. The mimicking tone is deadly cute Haruna thought she should run away before Ryosuke did anything. And so she speeds away to her dressing room, her giggles resonance around the studio. “I’ll come to get you, bratty girlfriend of mine!” Ryosuke announced as he followed Haruna’s trails suit.

The rest of the staffs only shook their head in happiness.
