woke up late. barely had time to shower and check email before we needed to leave the house this morning. normally, i wouldn't have worried about checking my email, but my plans for this evening had been left at, 'yeah, we'll go weds evening'. which doesn't do me much good when my parents are wanting to know if i'll be home for dinner and/or my plans for the day. got email checked, something resembling a plan, then we ran out of the house.
Ran by the bank, then drove to north kc to pick up mom and chris for lunch (chris is working as a temp at mom's work for break), then further north to a sports bar/grill place for lunch. i had fish and chips... *shrug* i've had better, but i've also had far worse. drop mom and chris back off at work, then dad, brother john and i drove downtown to the ww1 museum at liberty memorial.
which is pretty damn cool, and that's coming from someone who dislikes american history, guns, and museum exhibits that are geared to the lowest common denominator. there was actually more to this than 'this gun was shot by this guy at this guy and uses bullets this big'. which bores the living daylights out of me and is why people hate studying history. decent displays, lots of things that are NOT weapons, which is always nice in a war museum, and well thought out placards. and pretty damn spiffy architecture. about the only bad part was that it was hellishly expensive... museum by itself was like 8 bucks and another 4 for a trip up the memorial itself. the view from the top is totally worth it (well, certainly is worth it on someone else's ticket), really the entire museum is like that... worth it, but damn.
we left the memorial in plenty of time to get me home so i can make my plans at 6... and yet, somehow, we pulled into the drive about 5 minutes before i'm supposed to be in overland park, a good 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic. dad got us lost on the way to pick up gma's car from the shop, then he had to stand around and chat, and then he had to chat with gma once we got it over to her, and it was just... unpleasant. i lvoe my family, but stuff like, sandy has plans at 6 that require her to be in kansas, perhaps we should make sure she's home by 5.30 like she asked, seems to be beyond them some days.
at any rate, got home, and drove out to what i thought was the right joann's. because i couldn't find a listing for one on shawnee mission parkway, so i went to the one on metcalf... they're both in overland park, there can't be more than one right? WRONG. so i get to the *wrong* joann's at like 630 or something, call berkie, go oh, i'm at the wrong one, and quick as i can go 40 someodd blocks and manage to get to the correct joann's. which i adore, it's sooo much better than the one in como and/or independence. Saw a couple there that are... doable, but not, omg, i lvoe this and i must use it. :-/ drive back to metcalf to go to hancock fabrics. found
one that i *really* like... but can't use. found a couple others that i like almost as much and can prolly use (
#1,
#2,
#3. 2 or 3 are more likely, 3 most likely). so i'll be coming back up here in a couple weeks after checking and making sure i can actually use it. then buying... enough... and making a bodice with it. i might get some of the stuff i love and make one out of that as well and just not wear it when required to be accurate. any of them are going to require a whole new set of skirts, in colours i don't wear very often but that i know i look good in. thanks much berkie for going with me...
went to dinner at red robin, where we were ignored by our waiter and had the manager looking after us the entire time. much chatting and enjoying the company of someone who i get to see far too infrequently. on the bill, i totally put a note next to the tip saying that it went to the guy who actually helped us, not the shitty waiter. yes, i know it's bitchy, but the guy didn't do his job, like... at all. didn't greet us, didn't get us drinks, didn't take our order, not a damn thing. i almost stole his pen in retaliation as well, but i decided that that was just a bit overzealous.
took berkie back to her car, then drove home. which i managed despite not knowing where i was in relationship to the house, or really if i was already too far into kansas for the highways i was wanting to take to get me where i needed (they did). w
will prolly go to bed here in the fairly near future, i want to get some stuff done online first, and even after i go to bed, with the fun of a laptop, i might not actually go to sleep.
although i am really tired... so we'll see.
tomorrow is Dress Shopping with katie and jj, coffee w/ my ipod and a book, then over to gmas to work on this project. that last bit... not going to be particularly pleasant... i'm sure she'll let me know in no uncertain terms how she feels about me having a boyfriend with hair longer than mine. yes, she's found pictures.
