I will not sign up for Merlin Big Bang. I will not sign up for Merlin Big Bang. I’m not even done watching S3, so I will most definitely not sign up for Merlin Big Bang. Nope. But if anyone signed up? I will cheerlead. And also, I would happily accept Merlin recs because it’s been aaaaaages since I read a good Merlin story.

It's ALREADY awesome!!!

Chin leans back with a wide smile. "You should be evenly matched."
ahahahahahah I love his Smug.

I'm sad to say I know nothing about the way SEALS work either -- I did way too much research for Casey's NSA black ops background in the Chuck fandom, considering it's a comedy, but that's not exactly the same . . . however, one thing I did get from that (and it's H50 canon) is, anybody who works in some Special Operations/Special Forces/any branch's tough-guy unit can be attached to . . . whatever operation is going on, no matter who's running it. If there are parameters to this, few people reading will care.*G*

IMO, you could just have anybody grab him for anything without much explanation. Doesn't the General of the Pacific Fleet headquarter in Honolulu? Ah, Wikipedia, ILU. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleet_Marine_Force Which means any of the Commanding General's buddies could ask him for a man to do something special that's not involved with usual procedures, therefore handwaving all that stuff.

I think Chin would be a fantastic boss - tough but fair, and with enough sense of humor to be smug.

So, okay! Let's see. If the operation fits, you can basically get anyone from any unit, if that agent is available? So they could bring Steve in to work with Danny as long as Steve is capable of doing the job, even if Steve is usually based somewhere else?

I wonder, though - could I get with an op set in, like, Venezuela? SEALs do work the entire world, as far as I know, but probably not in countries the US is supposedly not at war with... Maybe Cuba would be a good middle ground. (I mean, I might not have to go into too much detail; this would be more for myself so that I feel like my story's based on a somewhat solid basis...)

I should rewatch -- quel horreur*G* -- but I think that's canon from the 'Bullfrog' episode, where Steve is handwaving who Bullfrog works for.

And your bosses can pull you out even if you're busy, like all other jobs.

All this is my theory, which is my own. But it's propped up by the fact that Steve isn't a SEAL anymore, and hasn't been for the five years he's been chasing Hesse. Okay, that's a guess too, based on the governor's recital of his resume: five years in Naval Intelligence, six years as a SEAL.

I say the SEAL years came first; that's a younger man's job. I wouldn't think they usually move a 26 year old intelligence officer into SEALS. He'd be too valuable, as well as already five years beyond his physical prime. NI goes along with the do-it-yourself forensic stuff. SEALs don't do much of that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Naval_Special_Warfare_Command#SEALs

So as a Naval Intelligence Officer, he's doing operations wherever they send him. The CIA is not allowed to conduct operations in the US, but afaik every other branch has intelligence operatives everywhere, including any given friendly country. That doesn't mean he doesn't use all his SEAL training to do his job now.

P.S. Ahem, sorry! You walked right into my brainstorming trap. Oops. Feel free to tell me to shut up!

I love brainstorming! It helps me ignore the three stories I am not writing right now.

I'm not saying you should include any of that stuff in the story, but it's good to know where your guy is coming from. There's a realistic basis for it. :)
