White collars go well with trolls.

Dear f-list, you are obviously wise beyond words. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to me that you were right about the splendid thing that is White Collar. I did, however, not expect it to be quite this splendid. Especially - oh! Especially the chemistry between Neil and Peter (shoe sizes birthday cards!) as well as the loveliness that is Peter’s wife. If there ever was a threesome I could actually, potentially make my OTP in a fandom, it is this.

Is this where I should admit to actually having written the beginning of a story already? Probably not. But.

The problem… well. The problem is that Neal has always been incapable of accepting when things are out of his reach. Peter would tell him he should capitalize it, refer to it as The Problem because this is what got Neal into trouble in the first place.

Not that Neal would ever willingly discuss this particular issue with Peter. He may possess a lot of worrisome tendencies, but suicidal urges are hardly ever part of them.

Also, Merlin 2x6. Quite possibly my favourite episode of Season 2, so far. Under the cut: Five top moments and a couple of questions and concerns.
Five top moments and a couple of questions and concerns.
  • Merlin really is the worst manservant ever.
I mean, for a moment there, it looked like he was actually cleaning Arthur’s room, after not having been able to do it due to having to go into hiding. Then it turns out he’s merely dumping everything in a corner, behind some wooden chest or something. What’s more, he’s doing it while Arthur is right there.
  • Uther in love
The smitten way he is watching his beloved troll? This is why it’s impossible to hate Uther, even though there are moments when he would totally deserve it.
  • Arthur protecting Merlin
Most of the time, it’s Merlin who covertly protects Arthur. (Not that Merlin is good at covert, mind you.) The rare times when Arthur is the one who keeps Merlin safe from harm - in this case, sending his soldiers to look for Merlin in places where he knows they won’t find him - appeal to my little fangirl-y heart. Arthur is close to yelling at Merlin to finally get a move on; he’s that worried.
  • Failed hug
On the surface, it’s kind of a funny scene. ( Although it also looks quite romantic if you use the right sort of music.) However, it also made me wonder whether Arthur’s actually ever hugged anyone. I mean, just the way you’d hug a friend - has Arthur ever done that? Becaue I don’t think he has.
  • Arthur openly opposing Uther
In the scene with the villagers, he clearly needed a moment to make up his mind. Once he had, he even told Uther no, and as far as I remember, it was the first time. Before, Arthur may have said, “I don’t think it’s a good idea,” or he might have ended up secretly going against Uther’s orders. He never said, “I will not,” to Uther’s face. I think this is a huge step for Arthur. That it initially provoked him being disinherited? Ouch.

Questions and concerns:
  • What about Morgana?
She’s been rather absent those last few episodes. Is she secretly trying to get a grip of her magic? Are there no instances of burning candles anymore; does she really learn that quickly? I was surprised she was portrayed as being rather happy Uther found his new love (before that love turned out to be a stinking troll), considering she would have to still be resentful about the druids. Maybe the next episode with the witchfinder will bring her back into focus.
  • What about Gwen?
She tells Arthur in this episode that he has “a kind heart” and not to change, ever. Does this mean she’s forgiven him for ‘only coming to her rescue because Morgana asked him to’? In fact, did Gwen believe Arthur’s lie about his reasons? Because if she did, she must be battling a serious case of inferiority complex right now: Lancelot left her without an explanation (because if Gwen believes that Arthur doesn’t care, she wouldn’t understand why Lancelot left), and Arthur showed her the cold shoulder. How does she deal with that? I’d kind of like to know, but I wonder if they will ever address it.

Yes, yes, I am late to hop onto the train. I know. But those last few days have been rather busy! However, this weekend, I might actually get around to working on stripper!Merlin. We'll see.

white collar, merlin
