Fic: Miles from Nowhere

So apparently I can do short(-ish) when I limit the plot to one scene. Merci beaucoup to torakowalski for proper Brit-speak and many other things!

Merlin/Arthur
PG-13
~1’900 words

Hey! This is great :)

I've always had a thing for near-future!fic (not to be confused with merlin future!fic, which takes place rather a lot later...)in the merling fandom, because that way, you can start froma a totally different point in time, and create distance, perspective and new character developments that would otherwise be a lot of work to achieve. And this fandom has such a need for some new perspective, sometimes.

Anyway, you did good. I really like your short fic.

Yes, precisely! That's really what tempted me into writing this - not having to cling too closely to current canon. There is a certain freedom because canon fic set firmly in current time would first have to deal with Gwen/Arthur before taking a step towards Arthur/Merlin, and that would automatically make it long. (Which isn't to say I dislike Gwen/Arthur in the series, mind you.)

In conclusion, variety = splendid!

Also, thank you! I like writing short fic; I just don't always manage to keep it short.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHH!!!! *flaily hands*
This is just perfect, all this desperation and Merlin and Arthur still being themsselves, only older and with more issues!! I love all the hints at the backstory, though I hate the thought of Gaius having to die. ;_;
Merlin staying so close to Arthur and not being able to move far away made it all better though!! Clearly you need to write more canon fic!!

You know, it was kind of great to take a step back (or forward, rather) and be able to disregard the details of current canon. Very freeing, so much more liberty in what can be done!

(Gaius. Oh, yes. I know. But ugh, something had to happen after Merlin's escape. Uther would want to see someone pay.)

We know Merlin never really leaves. *g*

*dies* So lovely. The weather, for some reason, really works well. You've done that perfectly. And the kiss was just gorgeous, and Arthur asking over and over for Merlin to come back and awwwwwwwww. ^^

I think weather can create great atmosphere - both weather that fits the mood, and weather that is the complete opposite of the mood. Thank you!

I love this! It's just such a jewel, so small and so RIGHT.

Oh, thank you! This was one of those stories that I wrote in one sitting, and I'm so glad it worked for you.

*takes a deep breath*

you sure know how to pack a punch in so little words...I'm still trying to get my heartbeat back to normal.

I didn't even know you could mash so much pain, passion and yearning in the same story and not make it a novel...really really good writing*is impressed*

...the only problem now is that I'm dying for a backstory*g*

Dude, this comment! Thank you so much - in a way, this was kind of an experiment for me, and I am so, so happy it worked this well. Also, I do have quite some backstory in my head. I could totally answer a couple of questions, if you were to ask me. :D
