Xmas List
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out; it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish and it might come true. Give and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
It's taken me a while to decide to do this... I'm not good at thinking up things that I want. And I'm not very good at asking for them. :( But I'll give it a shot. I"m working on seeing if I can do some things for others on their lists right now. :D
1) Laptop. Nothing extremely fancy, though it would be VERY cool if it would play morrowind for my hubby. :P I really want to go back to school, or take online courses for Medical Billing, but I really want to be able to go somewhere else to jump online and do stuff. ie: Away from home and kidlet.
2)Girl day. A day to hang out and just be girly. Do each other's hair, watch a chick flick, go out for ice cream in our pj's.
3)Cards with a personal note, story or anecdote. As a kid, I was always envious of the mail. None ever came for me. Now I realize that mail=bills=stress=no good. I'd love to get some good holiday mail. Especially since a LOT of my friends live down in the bay area. (address to show in a locked post following this one)
4)Gummi Bears : nope, not the candy, the semi-new DVD set. I LOVE and MISS that show sooo bad. And I think my kid would dig it. He's into all kinds of the older stuff. Aside from being a Star Wars junkie, we watch Gargoyles every day. :P But yeah.... I <3 the Gummi Bears
5)World Peace, it'd be nice, wouldn't it? But I guess it doesn't happen just like that. Instead, do a random act of kindness and think of me. :) Even just smiling and saying hi can sometimes make all the difference in the world to someone.
6)Umm.....(this is getting harder!)A pink nintendo DS lite. I know...I"m copying PerverseAngelic, but I've wanted one for a while now. We could match, and exchange games. ;) :P
7)Dinner and a movie with friends. I like going out, husband, not so much. I end up at home. A LOT. Dinner and a movie with a friend every once in a while would be heaven!
8)This is waaay harder than it looks... Umm... Headset for my Razr phone. I know it takes BlueTooth, but I don't care really. :p Just a headset that will work, I"ll take a cord. :p
9)Torrid Gift certificates. Being a mom, I put off buying things for myself, even when I really want them. Gift certificates for a store that no one else in the house would possibly use and could only be for me would be awesome! :P
