Маленький туториал по сухому валянию
For work you'll need:
natural undyed wool batt
red wool batt
felt needle #46, #48
foam sponge or a special brush for felting
Pin-base for brooches
Form the shape that resembles a triangle from the fist-sized piece of natural undyed wool. Start to poke through this piece using a needle #46 evenly on all sides over the entire volume. Special notches on the tip of the needle engage the fibers and push them deep into the product.
Try to ensure that the needle passed through piece of wool. Use the foam sponge as a substrate to protect your fingers from a wound.
When the triangle formed lightly, we will take two small pieces of wool (about 1 / 4 of initial volume) and roll them into balls leaving the end un-felted.
These beads will be put on one of the faces of the triangle. These will halfs of heart. Needle them to the ground poking through the balls.
When the beads are footholded and the piece of wool will be shaped like a heart continue to poke a needle whole body evenly.
After a while the wool will be slightly matted. Its size will decrease and rough needle will not be able to stick to it. It's a time to take a thinner needle and begin to fine finishing.
Look to your product from all sides. It should already be quite dense with smooth surface.
Put small clumps of wool to the places where you see rough seams or some irregularities and needle them.
Thus, our workpiece ready.
Wrap the workpiece on all sides by the red wool. We need a rather thick layer (at least 0,5-1 cm of wool), because the wool will decrease its volume on felting and some of it will go into the workpiece.
Use the needle #48 to anchor slightly the wool on the workpiece and then begin felt intensively poking the workpiece evenly on all sides. At this stage it is not necessary that the needle passed through, otherwise the reverse side can climb out wool base.
Put a little piece of the red wool to the places where wool base become visible after the process of felting and continue to needling.
Continue to needling until our heart will have the desired shape and its surface will smooth.
Generally our heart is ready. Though you can still applay wet felting. Wet heart, use soap and spoil his hands. It is possible in this way to adjust its shape to achieve more smooth surface and wash out the dirt from the wool.
Sew the pin to the back side of the heart and a brooch is ready!
Optionally, you can decorate it with embroidery, beads, flowers, bows ...
