Cultural differences

Today I was trying to get in touch with the doctor's office. And I just kept getting these weird beeps. So I called the main number of the hospital and told them that there was something wrong with my doctor's phone.

"I think their phone is broken. When I call I just hear weird beeps. It kind of sounds like a car alarm. I wanted to make them aware and also ask how I can get in touch with them."

Guess what I found out??

BUSY SIGNALS ARE DIFFERENT IN ENGLAND AND THE U.S. They should teach you that right away so you don't make embarassing mistakes and stupid phone calls saying someone's phone is broken!!!!!

Later in the day I bought honey since it was my turn to buy honey for tea at work.

When I opened it, it was all solid looking. I was too embarassed to show my work that I bought honey that had gone bad so I just said I'd get it on my lunch break. I went to return the honey saying that they sold me bad honey!

Guess what I found out?

there are TWO types of honey - runny honey and SET HONEY. You want runny honey for tea and set honey for toast. Of course I bought the set honey!! Then of course tried to say it was bad and return it when it was perfectly good honey - only it was set honey that I didn't know existed.

Then later I went to the corner shop with Dom to get milk for my manager and he wanted to get dorittos. When we got back I said in front of everyone, "Oh man, Dom, we were just at the shop! We could have gotten the newspapers and saved a trip later!" (We have to summarise newspapers everyweek for work.) And of course it was right after he had made an announcement to everyone saying he had picked up the papers. WHERE WAS I? How did I not notice WHEN I WENT WITH HIM that he got the papers? And how was I that out in space that I didn't notice him announcing to everyone that he got them WHEN I WAS NEXT TO HIM? And then WHY WHY WHY did I have to say, "We could have gotten the papers" in front of EVERYONE right after his announcement that he got them.

Silva, my colleague, said, "That's bad - even for Claire."
