Savages

I read the book Savages and then watched the movies based off of the book... Both were good of course the book was better.
I know some people were complaining that the movie lost the dark sense of humor that the book had, I don't see this as being a problem because the book's humor came from the author's style of writing, when he describes Chon taking a shot gun and blowing a fellow drug dealer's head off, it's the golfing analogy that makes the whole scene of decapitation via shotgun seem bright and sun shiny day... this is the tone of the book, even the most callus acts of violence don't seem so bad because the writer's punchy writing style distances the reader from looking too closely at the bad things going on.

The movie on the other hand does not have this distraction and the violence is brutal and ugly, everything is unrelenting up until the butcher job that was done on the ending... The ending was a mess it was like the director went people won't like Ben, Chon and O dying at the end so we'll completely ruin the end by giving a fake out and then the real ending. It would have been better with the tragic ending but I wasn't opposed to a happy ending either but one or the other not both.
I liked the movie on a whole, the ending again was a distraction but ignoring that it was a good movie.
