I realise I didn't write about last week's episode, which I liked. Unlike tonight's.
this was kind of a barfworthy episode. especially when Kristen Bell, Ryan Hansen, and Jason Dohring came on at the end to give their message. I mean, OK, yes, what's going on is horrible, but if you want do a PSA, just do it, don't write it into the main plot of an entire episode. That was worse than Un-American Graffiti's preachy anvils.
Also, it was horribly contrived. If you do the paternity test and you don't match, that pretty well proves he's just after the money, too, so why all the shenanigans about whether or not the book is a fraud just to send the guy off your trail?
The rest of the episode was all right, and it's interesting to see that both Piz and Logan had similarly uncomfortable looks on their faces when their respective girlfriends hugged them.
Parker is definitely moving way too fast for Logan, so I don't see any good coming of that. And now that Veronica's been accepted to the FBI summer internship (they told her that over the phone? You'd think they'd, you know, mail her a nice letter or something) Piz can't use her as an excuse to stay in Neptune, so he'll be able to go to New York and be an indie music snob.
However, the FBI is in DC, not Virginia. Their training academy is in Virginia, but I'm pretty sure that's not where Veronica's headed, as that's for actual training of field agents, presumably ones who have already completed some form of higher education. No, her internship is definitely going to be at the one in DC. I can't imagine Piz would have even known about the training academy, either, and most 19-year-old college students from the west coast would surely assume the FBI is in DC. That was sloppy writing.
I think the best part of the episode was Dick's speech to his father. Wow. I didn't know he had it in him, and Ryan Hansen really sold it. He actually made me feel bad for Dick, which is remarkable, as I usually dislike him. I guess knowing his dad's an even worse human being than he is helped to give him that perspective.
The Mac/Max thing was cute, and I'm glad she didn't just walk away. I like that they resolved it in a very rational and mature way. She clearly likes him enough to allow herself to live her life her way and not judge him for his choices, which is cool, even if his choices are horribly unethical. But then, this is the girl who put up a purity test website and then sold people's results.
The burglary storyline was weird and underdeveloped. I guess we're going to see more of it next week in the two episode finale, which was, at least tonight, billed as the season finale. It looks like an exciting two episodes.
Let's hope there's good news between now and then.
