My Sesame Chicken Adventure

Jan 31, 2009 12:49

Last night Will & I were sitting at home watching a movie, when I got an all-consuming, irreversible craving for sesame chicken.

Will didn't love the idea of driving to Lowville and back since it was 10pm, so I told him I'd take care of it all and he wouldn't have to do a thing. So he agreed.

I called in my order and was told that my chicken would be ready in 10 minutes: the exact time it takes to get to Lowville. Perfect! I tucked my yoga pants into my boots, grabbed my coat and went outside...only to be met by a SNOWSTORM! I had no idea that it had been snowing like crazy the whole time we were watching our movie, but now I had no choice but to go to Lowville since I had already called in my order.

Thinking about how good that chicken would taste, I brushed my car off as fast as I could and jumped in. After 4 tries I got out of our driveway and took off down the Snell Road. It took me about 15 seconds of zero visability to realize that I had forgotten to brush off my headlights. But I was determined and hungry. So I turned on my 4-ways so that I could see (although the flashing snow made me a bit dizzy) and pulled into an empty lot as soon as I could to brush them off. Crisis averted.

Almost.

After fixing the headlights, I shifted into drive, only to find that I was stuck. After 5 minutes of shifting and prodding, I was forced to call my husband.

"Um, honey? I'm stuck in the snow; can you come get me? Oh, and, it's pretty bad out there so you'll need to wipe off the car and get a good head start to make it out of the driveway."

And so I waited and waited while my husband - you know, the one who wanted to stay inside where it was warm - brushed off his car, got stuck in our driveway, and shoveled himself out. Finally he made it and pushed me out. We dropped off his car and headed to Lowville together.

15 minutes later (and 25 minutes late) I jumped out of the car and walked into the restaurant, only to find that they close at 10:00 and had been waiting for me so they could close. I told him that I had the sesame chicken and was met with a look of...um, I'm not really sure what look he was giving me, but eventually it came out that he had made something else by mistake.

As they turned on the stove and started cooking, I peeked my head out of the door to tell Will (who was wiping off my car the proper way) that it would be another 10 minutes because my order was mixed up.

Eventually, I got my chicken and we started home. I turned to Will and told him that his life is so much more exciting with me in it. He smiled and agreed. I also informed him that God knew what he was doing when he gave me with a very, VERY patient man.

He didn't argue.

We slowly made our way back home through the snow and enjoyed the best sesame chicken I've ever had.
