It reminds me of when my grandmother's generation was still alive, and we'd have parties and the old people would surprise us with what they could do.

Yeah, would be a lot more to look forward to getting old back then. Now we just park them in front of the TV and leave them alone (well, sort of the way most kids are raised too).

I'm convinced that if you keep the body moving the brain works a lot better.

My Uncle Manuel is a classic example of that--up until he got sick (and well, until the ghosts and shit got to him), he was very active; gardening, walking to town for haircuts, etc., etc.
Once he slowed down, his brain and body both started to go.

He's really doing well. The assisted living place that he's at has activities every day. They start the morning with exercise, they have sing-a-longs and dances and games. It's repetitious, but most of the people there have no short term memory anymore so they don't notice.
