New AC in the Accord

Today, my parents finally fronted the money to get the air conditioner in the Honda. It had needed it since late June, but I ran into the sticker shock dad gets and the 'we have no money' that both of my parents tend to have whenever an expensive repair is in order. I wanted to--I kept my mouth shut to not risk being fussed at--calmly remind them that I had been put in charge of car repairs and that when I say something needs to be done, it needs to be taken care of within weeks, not months.

Since the new compressor was installed and the system retrofitted, it seems to blow cold air, but I won't try it because it's cold and wet outside. I think it could use servicing come spring when we are ready to use it frequently. I hope my parents will do it because I won't be at home to get it taken care of. So, one car problem has been resolved. It is very satisfying and comforting to know it was dealt with before it rendered the vehicle inoperable. The engine runs so smooth and like new, and performance has gotten a boost back to normal. I can open that thing up and her little engine will roar power through the drivetrain. A 2.2L inline 4 cylinder engine can chuck out an impressive amount of power when made well, and Honda engines are among the best made. The throttle is back to its normal responsiveness, and the clutch feels normal yet again, thanks to the burden of the broken compressor being gone. The handling has improved a bit, too.

The next thing the Accord needs is new tires. It currently has Michelin Harmony tires on it that are nearly completely bald and have poor traction in rain. I'm amazed that I can maneuver as well as I do, rain or shine, but if I demand too much, they squeal on dry pavement or slip on wet pavement. I want to get Michelin tires for the new ones, but not the HydroEdge that I'd like, which cost $40 more than the cheaper tires that we will probably be getting. I hope this happens; I don't want to drive on bald tires in the winter.
