Englandshire - Day 1

Jul 27, 2009 14:49

It's not that I have nothing to do, it's just that I don't really want to do it. Cos it's the first day back from work and lets face it, who can be motivated having just had a fortnight away from it all?

That said, I've whittled down the piles of stuff by half - mostly by looking thorughj it and sending it back to the half-wits who failed to do their work properly. Hee.

So, the holiday actually started on Friday night, with a few pints in the Bon. For we are predictable. It was a very good night, with a few of the usual faces absent due to the fact that they had headed down to our first stop off a night before us. Fair enough, we were starting a fortnights holidays and they had taken a long weekend.

Saturday morning saw us packing up and wondering if everything would go in the back of the Mini. Fortunately Viggy has Tardis-like qualities once you put her back seats down, so all three big bags and the bits and bobs fitted in without any amount of Tetris-ing required. This is a good thing, considering the amount of crap we brought back.

Once packed up we meandered down the Cafe Circa, our traditional pre-holiday (and more frequently morning after night before) breakfast spot where we were joined by G, who kindly let us borrow his Sat Nav for the finding of places weird and foreign. So sutably fed and prepped, we got underway a little later than originally intended but none the worse for that. Viggy got her breakfast of Unleaded and we set off to our first stop.

Aston, a little village in Cheshire, is a quiet place where people amuse themselves put up interesting scarecrows so that they can enjoy the crashing of cars as people forget to pay attention to the road as they pass by.  S&A had put up an amazing representation of Finding Nemo in their hedge. This included a huge turtle on the top of the hedge, Nemo's dad and Dory in the hedge and Nemo himself being represented by a clown fish kite hanging off a fishin line I think it was. I got "stung" twice by the Jellyfish hanging off the hedge which I had managed to park beside/ underneath.

Sha_d, Munchkinstein and Jamie were there already, having gone down on the Friday and spent the Saturday playing in and around the follies in a park nearby. It sounds like we missed a lot of fun and quite a bit of walking. But then I couldn't really afford to take the Friday off. Boo.

After a post arrival cup of tea, chocolate cookie and sit down, we all wandered over to the Bhurtpore, a fine drinking estabilshment that also provides stunningly good curries. And so our holiday started as it meant to continue.
