BBM PICTURE PERFECT
CHAPTER 2
“Shit,” Ennis thought. “Why in the hell did I agree to this?”
“I don’t know how to model, cant even smile in a photo.”
His face was reddening as he weaved in and out of the New York traffic trying to get to the address Jack had given to him the previous night on time.
“Damn whisky, never should have got drunk.”
“Got ta admit, I wouldn’t wanna see Jack stuck and lose him business, he seemed like a good guy.”
Ennis pulled up outside a small building that had a sign reading ‘Red River Studio.’
“Looks like the right place,” Ennis thought to himself before taking a deep breath and stepping out of the car. It was a cold day and Ennis was glad he had parked so near.
He walked to the door hesitantly like a weary animal carefully analysing a new object.
He reached the door and placed his hand on the handle,
“Shit, I can't go through with this,” he thought, his hand trembling on the door handle.
“I can't pose or take directions well, I’m just gonna screw things up worse for Jack.”
Ennis’ brown eyes were full of thought and his mind was racing. Just as he was about to take his hand off the handle and walk back to the car he heard a familiar voice.
“what ya doing, no second thoughts right?” Jack teased playfully as if the answer was obvious.
“Huh? Nope, no second thoughts.” Ennis said, his mouth twitching into a fake smile as he spoke.
“No second thoughts,” Ennis echoed in his head.
“Fuck that, now what am I gonna do? oh well, guess if ya can't fix it ya gotta stand it,” he added in his thoughts.
Ennis opened the door and allowed Jack by in front of him. The inside of the studio was furnished. There was a reception desk with a young woman behind it sitting at a computer. Jack waved at her and then stepped through a door into the adjacent room motioning with his hand for Ennis to do the same.
“Fuck, here we go,” Ennis muttered so only he could hear.
The room was lavishly furnished, with a bed and a large red felt couch, rugs and a roaring fire burning in a fireplace at the far end of the room.
“Shit, you own this place,” Ennis said his mouth gaping.
“Hell no, I just rent it out when I need to do an indoor shoot” Jack chuckled.
“I see,” Ennis replied, looking at the floor a little embarrassed.
“So i'll get my camera sorted and you can put on one of the sweat shirts over there. It doesn’t matter which one, we have to get photos for them all,” Jack instructed Ennis, pointing to a stack of sweaters piled up on a coffee table in the corner of the room.
“Okay,” Ennis said, trying to sound calm when really his heart was racing and his limbs shaking.
Jack turned his back on Ennis and began to sort out his camera and equipment, adjusting lenses and such and Ennis slowly walked over to the sweaters and pulled the one off the top of the pile. It was a deep blue wool jumper with a v-neck.
He slipped his sweater over his head and Jack couldn’t help but turn around and look at his chest noting the wisp of hair spread across it but as soon as the sweat shirt was past Ennis’ head Jack turned around and continued to sort out his camera equipment.
Ennis slipped the new jumper over his head with ease and then sat down on the sofa to wait for jack to finish adjusting the lens.
“Right,” Jack said, turning around camera in hand.
“I think you're fine where you are on the couch, just lie back a bit and relax,” Jack said smiling his perfect smile.
“Right," Ennis said, "but no face shots?” Ennis quizzed.
“No face shots,” Jack reassured him smiling, his blue eyes wide and sparkling.
The photo shoot had been going on for around half an hour and Ennis was finally loosening up. Most of the sweaters had been photographed already and Ennis had moved from place to place pose to pose and Jack was amazed at how quickly Ennis was getting used to the posing.
After a few more minutes all the photos had been taken and Jack was happy with the result.
“Right, that’s everything,” Jack said, smiling in appreciation.
“You’ve really helped me out today and I’ve got some really great shots here,” Jack added.
“Huh? I’m not sure about great shots but I’m happy I helped” Ennis said, smiling the fullest smile Jack had seen on Ennis’ face.
Ennis stood up and pulled the sweat shirt over his head again, drawing Jack's attention to his naked torso once more.
“Holy Jesus,” Jack thought as he studied Ennis' chest and stomach along with the toned shoulders and arms.
Ennis then slid his own plain black slim fitting sweater over his shoulders and held out his hand toward Jack to shake. Jack shook his hand and then pulled a cheque book out of his pocket and began to write out the amount.
“How does a hundred sound?” Jack asked looking up at Ennis.
“A hundred? You kiddin’ me, all I did was sit on a sofa and get my photo taken,” Ennis gasped.
“Well, believe it or not that’s not much, and the company that has hired me for today will happily pay me back for that,” Jack said, smiling up at Ennis.
“Well, if ya sure,” Ennis agreed, smiling.
“Yup, here ya go,” Jack said, passing Ennis the cheque which Ennis took happily and deposited it into his pocket.
“Thanks again,” Jack said to Ennis, staring at his brown eyes.
“No problem, you need anything else?” Ennis asked.
“Well…,” Jack started.
“I’m making a portfolio to try and get hired full time by a newspaper or magazine company, and I would love to take a face shot of you to go in it,” Jack said.
Ennis scratched his chin and started to mull over the request.
“No-one would see it except me n’ any potential employers,” Jack added hopefully.
“Well, since you jus’ made me 100 dollars better off I can't really refuse,” Ennis smiled.
“Great!” Jack said, thrilled at the answer.
Jack stood up and walked over to the window in the room and drew across a large black out curtain causing the room to darken, the only source of light being the fire place on the far side of the room.
“It would be great if you could just lie on the rug by the fire and sort of sprawl out,” Jack instructed, smiling.
“Sure,” Ennis agreed.
Ennis walked over and lay on the floor moving into a lazy position, his arm resting above his head and his legs parted, the shadows cast by the fire dancing delicately across his face. Jack couldn’t help but stare at this gorgeous man laying out like this.
“This okay?” Ennis asked, looking up at Jack.
“Great, but try and relax your neck and face a bit,” Jack suggested.
“Okay, I’ll try,” Ennis responded.
Ennis began moving his head into different positions, but just couldn’t seem to get comfortable.
“Try putting one cheek slightly against the floor,” Jack suggested again.
Ennis tried this but just couldn’t get the hang of it.
“Here,” Jack said, squatting down and cupping Ennis’ cheek to try and position his head correctly. As he did this, he could feel the warmth of the fire against Ennis’ cheek, he was close enough to hear his breathing, to see the gleam of the fire sparkling in Ennis’ brown eyes.
Before Jack thought on it further, he was leaning towards Ennis to kiss him. Ennis shifted his head away before their lips connected and Jack pulled away quickly.
“Shit, I’m sorry,” Jack said pulling his hand through hair and rubbing his forehead, his eyes wide with shock and worry at what he had just done.
Ennis jolted up, his face closer to Jack's than Jack could bare, and then unexpectedly Ennis grabbed Jack's head and pulled them both closer together, so close their foreheads were touching. Ennis then whispered softly to Jack “It’s alright,” before pulling him even closer and kissing him passionately, both men running their hands through each others hair and breathing deeply.
