Ennis was stacking glasses into a rack and biting his lip. He pulled the sleeve of his white bar-man's shirt up to look at his watch which read 21.55.
“5 minutes,” Ennis thought, tapping his foot anxiously. If ever a night at work had dragged on for Ennis it was this one.
“Hey Ennis, you okay?” a pretty blonde barmaid asked in a concerned tone.
Ennis continued tapping his foot and biting his lip. The barmaid continued to look at Ennis.
“Huh? You say something,” Ennis asked the young woman.
“Yeah… you okay?” she asked again.
“Yup, fine,” Ennis said, ruffling his hair in an anxious manner.
“Okay…,” the barmaid said, turning and getting back to her chores.
Ennis looked at his watch again which now was at 21.57.
“Right, it’s near enough,” Ennis thought, running his hand through his blond curls and then down his face, pulling on his eyelids to reveal his intense brown eyes.
“I’m done for the night,” Ennis said quickly, whilst grabbing his jacket from under the bar.
“Okay,” the young woman smiled.
“Bye,” Ennis said, rushing towards the door.
“B-…bye,” the woman started, but Ennis was already out of the door.
“I never did get that guy,” the woman muttered, shaking her head and smiling.
Ennis stepped outside, the cold night air biting at his face but he didn’t notice he was too wired. He looked around the parking lot where a few cars were parked. He searched, looking for Jack and then the door to a red Toyota sports model to his left swung open.
“Looking for something,” Jack laughed, smiling his perfect smile, his tongue protruding slightly.
“Just found it,” Ennis smiled his equally perfect smile.
“Shit del mar, you gonna get in here, it's cold with the door open,” Jack said playfully.
“Sorry,” Ennis said, still smiling.
Ennis climbed into the car and swung the door shut behind him.
“So how was you night?” Jack asked, staring into Ennis’s dark eyes and losing himself in them.
Ennis looked around the parking lot making sure no one was around, and then he grabbed Jack's face, pulling him closer until there lips met. Jack reached his hand around the back of Ennis’ head, grabbing a handful of his blonde curls and running his fingers through them.
Jack had his other hand on Ennis’ chest and he slid it under Ennis’ shirt, feeling every detail as he went; the stomach hair, the abdominal muscles, the wisp of hair across his chest. Jack revelled in every moment of this but he only waited a few more seconds before pulling back from their passionate kiss.
“Huh? What’s wrong?” Ennis asked in a concerned whisper, not moving his hands from Jack's face.
“We should set off, back to my apartment,” Jack whispered, removing Ennis’ large hands from his face.
“Okay,” Ennis said, nodding at Jack in confirmation.
Jack turned his head reluctantly away from Ennis’ gaze and placed his hand on the steering wheel.
Ennis pulled his belt across and strapped himself in.
Ennis and Jack turned their heads to face each other again. Jack smiled widely.
“Let's get going, then, shall we?” Jack said, patting Ennis’ leg, causing Ennis to smile.
The drive didn't take long, maybe 10 minutes, the fact the traffic was so scarce on the roads Jack used. The car pulled up outside a large, impressive-looking apartment block. It was modern and exuded a sense of class, with large glass doors, a doorman and marble steps up to the entrance.
“Come on,” Jack said, stepping out of the car.
“Huh? You live here?” Ennis asked, flustered and ruffling his hair.
“No. See that phone box there, it’s a secret passage to my underground lair,” Jack said sarcastically.
“Huh?” Ennis said, squinting his eyes in confusion.
“It was a joke Ennis, ya dummy,” Jack chuckled.
“Watch it, Twist,” Ennis warned playfully.
“Might have to tackle ya now if ya don’t,” Ennis smilrf, his pink lips curling, his eyes bright and cheerful.
“Damn Ennis, sayin’ you’re gonna tackle me ain't reason for me to stop. Christ, I need to call you stupid more often,” Jack laughed, smiling widely.
Ennis grinned back at him and walked round the car, and the pair of them began to head for the door.
The doorman nodded in Jack's direction as he approached and pulled the door open.
“Thanks Eddy,” Jack said to the doorman on the way past, handing him some loose change.
“Thanks. Goodnight, Mister Twist,” the doorman smiled.
Jack waved bye to the doorman and he and Ennis walked through the lobby. It was large and modern, and looked like some amazing movie star hotel.
Ennis looked a little stunned at the surroundings, his eyes skimming over everything in the room. They reached an elevator and Jack pressed the button for the doors to open. They stepped inside and Jack hit the top button for floor 112. The doors closed and the elevator began to rise slowly.
“Top floor?” Ennis asked, impressed his eyes wide.
“Mmm, takes a good few minutes to get there,” Jack replied smiling slyly.
“Okay,” Ennis said, bouncing on the balls of his feet impatiently.
“A few minutes… in a little lift… together,” Jack hinted.
“Sure,” Ennis nodded, making a half smile.
“You really are stupid del mar,” Jack laughed.
“Huh? Wh..” Ennis started before Jack grabbed him by the arms and thrust him against the wall of the lift.
“You get it yet?” Jack asked smiling. He then darted his face forward and locked his lips in a kiss with Ennis. Both of them moaned as they clamped down their lips upon the others.
Ennis shrugged Jack's hands from his arms and then put one forearm across Jack's midriff, pushing Jack against the opposite wall, his other hand placed on the back of Jack's head, grasping the dark hair.
Ennis them pulled out of the kiss and began to plant kisses upon Jack's neck, causing Jack to moan.
“You like that, huh?” Ennis said, moving his hand down and caressing Jack's thigh.
The pair continued like this for a few minutes before Jack noticed they were at floor 111.
He pushed Ennis off and pointed at the display, gasping.
“Ah,” Ennis grunted, wiping the saliva from around his mouth.
The elevator doors opened at 112, and then Ennis and Jack stepped out onto the corridor. It was plain white walls and wooden floors, one large double-door stood opposite the elevator, and that was the only room on that floor. Jack fumbled in his pockets and retrieved a key which he inserted into the lock and opened the door.
The interior of the apartment was amazing modern décor, with a few paintings on the wall, some photos that Ennis assumed Jack had taken, a large breakfast bar with alcohol stored underneath at one side of the room, two large 4 seater sofas in a modern cupped seat design that surrounded a large glass table in the centre of the room.
But the main thing that caught Ennis' attention was the large French window at the opposite side of the room, which displayed a view across the city with its bright lights. Ennis was mesmerised by the beauty of it all.
“I gotta ask,” Ennis said, “how do you afford this, clearly there's something I don’t know about you.”
“I’m a credit card fraudster,” Jack said trying to keep his face straight but to no avail, his smile gave him away.
“Seriously, the owner was a friend of my Pa’s, but he was more of a Father to me then my Pa ever was. His name was Carl. When my folks passed away a few years back, he took me in, I lived with him and his wife Margaret in Lightning Flat, but then he struck lucky with the lotto. Managed to start a business, made ten times what he won in the first year, so we moved up here and bought this place. Him and Margaret moved into this room, and I was on the floor below.
"Anyhow, a couple of years ago, Margaret died and Carl not long after, and they left this to me. 'Course, I never seen any of the money, but I couldn't really ask for any of that when they left me this.”
“Hmm,” Ennis said, his eyes wide and emotive, staring into Jack's blue eyes.
Ennis reached his hand across, and cupped Jack's face comfortingly, the warmth of Jack's face against his palm. Jack smiled at the gesture and put his hand on Ennis’ shoulder.
“You want something to drink?” Jack asked.
“Huh? No, I’m okay,” Ennis answered.
“You gonna sit down?” Jack asked motioning towards the sofas.
They both moved over and Ennis sat down. Jack sat on the sofa opposite him.
“I don’t bite, ya know,” Ennis laughed.
Huh?” Jack asked, eyes widening, trying to figure out what he’d missed.
“Now who’s stupid,” Ennis chuckled.
“Get ya ass over here,” he added.
Jack laughed, and walked over, sitting right next to Ennis, leaning against him and smiling as Ennis placed his arm round Jack's shoulder, and pulled him in tighter as they sat there. Ennis closed his eyes clearly quite content.
“I could think of worse things than this,” Jack laughed quietly, listening to Ennis’ slow breathing, feeling the heaving of his chest.
“Mmm,” Ennis smiled, his eyes still closed, his heart just content with holding this man.
The two lazed there for a couple of hours, occasionally talking about work or friends.
Ennis opened his eyes and checked his watch.
“I'd better get going,” he whispered in Jack's ear, stroking his dark hair.
“Go where?” Jack asked sleepily.
“I'd better go home and get some rest, I’m helping out at the animal shelter in the morning,” Ennis said, stroking Jack's face with the back of his hand.
“Can't you stay here?” Jack asked, looking up, his big blue eyes like a puppy staring up at Ennis.
“I don’t know, I don’t have a change of clothes or nothin', and I cant really show up in my shirt and trousers to the animal shelter.”
“I’ll have clothes you can borrow,” Jack asked hopefully.
“I don’t know,” Ennis said, still uncertain.
“Go on, I don’t want you to leave,” Jack pleaded, giving Ennis the puppy eyes again.
Every time Jack did this Ennis just melted, his muscles weakening. How could he ever say no to that?
“Okay, fine,” Ennis smiled, planting a wet kiss on Jack's neck.
“I win,” Jack smiled.
“Anyway, I’m beat, we should be getting some sleep,” Jack added.
“Hmm if you bring me a blanket I’ll be fine here,” Ennis said appreciatively.
“I really hope that was a bad joke,” Jack said.
“Whut?” Ennis asked.
“I think we’ll both fit in my bed, come on, ya dummy,” Jack answered, laughing as he stood up, grabbing Ennis' hand and dragging him to his feet. He pulled Ennis towards the door at the end of the room.
The bedroom was big with a large bed against the wall in the centre.
Jack slumped onto the bed lazily and groaned.
“So tired,” he groaned, laughing a little as he spoke.
Ennis was laughing at Jack while undoing the buttons of his shirt. Jack's eyes, tired as they were, took in every detail, every hair, every muscle line, ever mark, every freckle, everything.
“Can you take my shoes off?” Jack asked. “I’m too tired,” he added, groaning.
Ennis laughed and walked across the room, pulling Jack's sneakers off his feet and discarding them in the corner.
“And the socks?” Jack asked, smiling.
Ennis did so and threw them into a laundry basket in the corner of the room.
“Fuck, Twist, you ever washed ya feet, they stink!” Ennis chortled.
Jack laughed into the sheets. Ennis just loved to see Jack like this. He couldn’t remember smiling like this in a long time.
“Jeans?” jack asked.
“This isn’t gonna lead to sleep is it?” Ennis asked, placing his hand on Jack's zipper, smiling.
“I think sleep can wait.” Jack smiled as Ennis pulled his zipper down.
