I WROTE HET WTF. *laughs* Actually, this is one of the few canon pairings in Bleach that I ship, and I suspect that whether you see the fic as fluff or angst will depend on how well you know the fandom. Or something. Less talk, more fic, yes? On with the show. The Bleach index is

Notes:
luxken27 asked for her Fandom Surprise prompt "justify me" (from the song listed in my music) to be rewritten for Bleach. The song itself and the fact that she's really not a slasher provided the inspiration. Oh, and I should probably mention here that I'm not up-to-date on Bleach at the moment, so if there's more information available now about Isshin's time as a captain that we didn't know around...the time Kazeshini was revealed, then I haven't heard it.
Isshin had lived for a very long time, and he’d done more in those years than he cared to think about, most days. When he looked at how far he’d come from that life-lying on the grass with his head in Masaki’s lap while their children played just a few feet away, instead of leading child-soldiers and old ghosts into a bloody, uncertain future-somehow, “remarkable” just didn’t quite cover it. There was no doubt to whom he owed his miraculous turnaround, though.
Isshin looked up at Masaki-his wife, the mother of his children, and the woman who made his life worthwhile. With her, he was a man and a father, not a shinigami captain and a blood-soaked killer. He could be more, could be better, if it was for her. “You justify me, have I ever told you that?” he murmured.
She started and gave him a look that was half “I love you, you dork” and half “you’ve lost your mind.” “What did you say?” she asked just as softly.
“You justify me,” he repeated, not sure where the unusual combination of words came from, but absolutely certain they were correct. “You’re my guiding light, my hope, my reason for living this life-I don’t know what I’d do without you, Masaki. I don’t know what I’d be without you, except that it couldn’t possibly compare to this.”
Masaki laughed and leaned down to kiss him. “You’d turn all your lab coats pink, end up in the hospital with food poisoning and forget trash day for a month straight, but you’d still be my Isshin.” Her gaze drifted over to where Karin was successfully bullying both her siblings.
That Ichigo. He was going to be picked on for the rest of his life, at this rate. Maybe they should try and get him a little training? Nothing like what Isshin himself had undergone, but a little knowledge of martial arts surely wouldn’t go amiss. He’d turned back to Masaki and opened his mouth to say as much when the look on her face completely took his breath away.
“Our family is strong,” she said decisively. “Whatever comes, we’ll get through it together.”
Isshin couldn’t help but smile. “Together,” he agreed. “Always together.”
