So I'm marathoning season five, which I've somehow had since it came out but haven't managed to watch yet, when something occurs to me: Ran would make a hell of a serial killer. So would the Shounen Tantei, for that matter. It's not like they don't have the mechanics down by now, after spending so much time around Shinichi/Conan, and no one would ever suspect them. No one does ever suspect them. How often do you see this scenario:
*murder happens*
Kogoro/Conan/Hattori/Whover's the featured detective of the moment: *glares dramatically at the body* They've been murdered! , go call the police!
*they do, and the police arrive*
Megure/Some other cop: Ah, I see I have a dead body and a veritable crowd of people who had opportunity to see to the "dead" part of the equation. Let me immediately rule out all the people on that side of the room, for no other reason than that I see them with dead bodies all the time. After all, kids who've been exposed to death since before they hit puberty aren't at all likely to become killers, am I right?
Zan: If you weren't a main character, you'd have been so fired by now.
I can just see one of the Shounen Tantei getting pissed off at all the stupid killers and becoming one themselves just to show the bastards how it's done. This, of course, leads to massive Conan angst, but that hardly puts it in a category by itself. Angst is the closest to normal that Conan ever gets. Also (on a completely different topic), Conan sounds almost exactly like Shinichi whenever he's personally confronting a murderer. Leaving aside the questions of how that's even physically possible, how is it that nobody ever notices, when they all apparently know his voice over the phone at the first word?
This is the kind of ramblings you get when I start marathoning anything, but especially Detective Conan. Beware the unfocused thought processes. Don't give me that look. You knew it was coming. *laughs* I'll shut up now, though.
