If you're following The Misadventures of James T. Kirk, this'll be a useful post to bookmark. I'll add to it whenever something new comes up that may or may not make it into the fics, and I'll link all the fics to the timeline at the bottom.
First, it's worth noting that Jim is the focus of this series. I shouldn't have to, given the name, but better safe than sorry. Any given fic may be about Jim and Spock or Jim and his ship or Jim and his crew or Jim and Bones or...get the point? There's going to be a "Jim and" leading the charge here. Just for the record. Second, what I've got here is just what I'm working with on this series. It's how I perceive their characters/relationships to work. Your mileage my vary.
Jim and Ambassador Spock (Who I will NOT be calling Spock Prime. Ugh.):
This is...gah, where to start? Okay, Spock considers Jim his friend and vice versa. It doesn't matter that--mind meld aside--they don't actually know each other all that well in this timeline. Spock doesn't really put those kind of limits on their friendship. Other kinds, yes. If our boy had turned out to be a psychopath or a rapist or something, Spock would have been the first person to pick up a torch and pitchfork. If, in other words, he were to go completely against the essence of the Jim Kirk that Spock served under all those years ago, things would be different. But he's not, so Spock pretty much decided to trust him and get him in the proper seat on the bridge and let the rest work itself out--in precisely that order, near as I can tell.
Oh, and one more thing. Spock doesn't view this particular version of Jim as a potential romantic partner. (No offense if that's your thing. I'm pretty fond of it myself, it's just not how things are in this series.) In his mind, "his" Jim is the only one that will ever fill that role. Yes, that's exactly how he says it to me. Back to reboot!Jim, Spock also doesn't view him as a son. I'm not sure what it is, beyond a complex mix of friend/brother/almost soulmate (still in the platonic sense). Something like t'hy'la, although he's fairly adamant that he'd never call Jim that. I don't know if that's because it doesn't apply or because he knows Jim'd bolt.
Jim, on the other hand, is not nearly as sanguine about the whole thing. He trusts Spock almost against his better judgment, but he trusts him completely. That...I think that's the thing their whole relationship turns on. He believes in Spock, trusts Spock, considers Spock a friend and needs Spock to feel the same towards him--although I'm not sure he's even entirely conscious of that last part--but he doesn't know why he feels that way. It's that element of conflict between what he feels and what he knows that keeps almost tripping him up.
More to come here later. I'm working on the first fic in the timeline right now, I just wanted to get this post up.
