Sooooo...this is
okane's fault. :P She made this comment on my first Shuuhei/Kazeshini story, and then
liralen made another comment, but by that time the muses were all over this shit*laughs* No, really. I wanted to write more with these two characters, I just didn't know how. The aforementioned repeat fic-enablers just happened to do their thing at just

Ah, I hadn't thought about that parallel, but you're right. Hmmm...that's interesting. I suppose this situation is one every zanpakutou has to be prepared to handle in their own way. There's only so far you can push a person after all, only so much horror they can be immersed in before they either need an intervention or they do something deeply stupid. And given the overall possessive natures of the zanpakutou...you can pretty much replace "intervention" with "claiming." "If you can't stand on your own two feet, then you'll stand on mine, but you WILL NOT fall" sort of thing.
I'm not, actually, but by all means fire away. I don't mind spoilers. Are they bastardizing Tousen by showing how he's manipulated Shuuhei just as much or more in the name of justice as Aizen and Gin did to their lieutenants? Or is that just my mental backstory speaking and it's something totally out of left field? I've got a Kazeshini zanpakutou post I need to get out of my head and onto the journal; a lot of the particulars of his characterization make sense when you see his home as I see it.

True! And their personalities make the struggle completely different for each shinigami. (I know I'll never get tired of reading them.)
Tousen... hmm, it's hard to explain. He and Shuuhei and Komamura had a massive fight, extending over several chapters, and we found out a lot more about what Tousen put himself through all those years leading up to his defection, and the effect of it all on Shuuhei. It was mixed up with some stuff about Tousen's new powers that a lot of people found cheesy, but the whole thing's heartbreaking in places; you should read it for yourself. (Canon is still in the fight scene above Fake Karakura Town, but a lot of stuff has gone down since everyone assembled: some awful, and some awesome, as always happens. >_> We found out more about Katen Kyokotsu's powers too, and Shinji released his shikai, and Toshiro went ballistic on Aizen, and Byakuya and Kenpachi had to fight side by side and annoyed each other, and a lot of characters got cut up pretty badly. But a good part of the action has been sorta like this. XDDD)
