Gustav and manga

Aug 30, 2008 23:53

Today we're featuring the creation of the "hurricane post" tag, courtesy of Gustav.  He's currently--to the best of my knowledge--sitting in the Gulf of Mexico, which is where hurricanes go to sharpen their claws before continuing on to fuck the Gulf Coast's shit up.  He's also a category 4, and will probably make landfall as a category 5.  From what I know, there's a hurricane watch in effect from somewhere in Texas to the Alabama/Florida line, and a tropical storm watch in effect for the panhandle for the next 36 hours.  This means that hurricane conditions or tropical storm conditions, respectively, will occur in that time period.  Probably sometime Monday, last I heard.  Why does this matter?  I'm in Pensacola.  Go take a look at a Florida map and see where Pensacola is.  Go ahead, I'll wait.
...
See?  Not that far into Florida from Alabama and therefore not remotely out of danger.  IF, and this is a big if, Gustav does everything they think he's going to do, that is.  The hurricane doesn't care what you think.  You'll know where it's going when it decides to get there.  So, if I go offline for a few days after it makes landfall, you know why.  Either way, I'll make an "I'm not dead" post as soon as I can once it's all over.  Personally, I'm not panicking.  It serves no purpose at this point.  I'm pretty sure we're staying here, or we'd already be making arrangements to leave.

The hurricane is coming.  It's going to suck, no matter where it goes.  We're going to deal.  That's the only option open at this point.

Now for something completely different.  I've been on kind of a manga binge lately, and I've noticed a few things in the process.

1.  Too much shounen manga--like, for instance, 140+ chapters of One Piece in about two days--is not good for my mental stability.  If I start spouting off crazy ideas or show signs of falling in love with the words "I've decided," I expect someone to smack me down.

2.  Conan (from Detective Conan) is an idiot, and the only reason no one's caught him yet is because they haven't asked the crime scene techs.  I'll bet you dollars to donuts they had him pegged within a month, tops, from the way he acts around them.

3.  Saiyuki was the first fandom titan.  Bleach is the current one, and if it weren't still the reigning king, D.Gray-man and One Piece would be slugging it out for the number three slot.  Oh.  Shit.

4.  None of this is helping me get anything done.  Or get any sleep, for that matter.  *rolls eyes*

5.  I was ragingly obsessed like this around this time last year.  Hey, look, a pattern.  Must be something about summer.  Either that, or I'm just a freak.

just saying hi, hurricane post
