TZC: Racing Waves (28 Zanpakutou)

Jul 12, 2008 00:10

Popular wisdom had it that Toushirou never went to the beach.  He was grumpy and cold and positively un-childlike.  His zanpakutou was ice, for goodness’ sake!

Popular wisdom was, as usual, utterly wrong.

Every year, Toushirou went to the beach with the one being who never left him-namely, Hyourinmaru-as his only company.  They did go in ( Read more... )

This is so cute. Our stoic little captain won't let his guard down around anyone but his Zanpakutou! I can imagine that if he went on a vacation it would be by himself.... and Hyourinmaru also. I can just picture the two of them racing the sea.

You always managed to surprise me with the things you come up with from prompts. Somehow all I could picture was a disgruntled Toshiro at the beach. This is much more interesting. :D

Thank you! I actually couldn't think what to do with this at first. Hyourinmaru's realm is an ice field, so no beach there, and I couldn't think of any reason why he would be visiting someone who had a beach. I finally came up with the idea while I was at the beach yesterday for an air show, (The Blue Angels are freaking awesome!) and the rest is history. Just goes to show, I should never, ever be without my notebook because inspiration comes from the strangest places.

Love this too-- the unexpectedness of it! And the really sly twist of casting this as a sort of report/fic debunking rumours about Hitsu. And how rumours are described as popular wisdom, which is a lovely way to say that common sense can sometimes add 1 to 1 and get 10 :-)

*snort* With shinigami, they can add 1 + 1 and end up with couch. It'd make perfect sense to whoever thought it, and they'd defend it to the death, revealing a ridiculous new power level in the process. Wait, that's all of shounen anime...

*forcibly returns to the topic* Anyway, I'm glad you liked it. I've got a particular fondness for finding the most obvious way of doing things with a particular character/situation/prompt and doing something completely different.

Lol, powering up makes me laugh/groan...

I love the way you add the twist and come from a totally different angle. You're literally looking at things from the other end. *grin* And it still ends up being so IC and believable.
I think I'm the exact opposite-- I like to see if I can probe something a little further, or follow a line of logic to the end.

I've got a pretty high tolerance for it, so long as it doesn't look like it was shoehorned into the plot, but even I have my limits.

I've said it before, but I've never really explained it: I dislike repeating myself, or anyone else. If a plot/point of view/whatever has been done to death, nine times out of ten, I won't touch it with a ten foot pole. If I don't feel there's anything new I can add, then I don't want to. On the other hand, I really, really like writing these characters. Add those two together and the end result is that I have a tendency to blaze my own narrative trail.
