Zanpakutou Post: Zangetsu and Zabimaru
So, this has turned into a sort of visual guide, complete with my own crappy scans. Why? Well, because I can, of course. And because this is mostly to get it all straight in my own head. Anyway, part one is just Zangetsu and Zabimaru. Please note, THIS IS NOT CANON. This is just my interpretation of the facts canon gives us. I make no claim that this is any sort of official information. I keep repeating this because I am a devout follower of the faith of Cover Thine Own Ass. Be prepared for a little incoherence, since I didn't hold myself to the highest editing standards when I wrote this.
Yeah, Zangetsu. Let's start here for the individual profiles. After all, he's where the fic started anyway. Ichigo and Zangetsu are equals and opposites. Ichigo had no formal training and, let's face it, no clue more than half the time. So, the spirit of his zanpakutou is of the "older, wiser and infinitely more patient" variety. A mentor first, then a partner and a friend, going through the stages as Ichigo grows into his powers and his position. Anytime Ichigo needs more knowledge or power, Zangetsu always gives it to him. Of course, he also tests him and makes him work for every inch of progress gained, but that's just Zangetsu. When they fight together, they're almost unstoppable, and they're partners off the battlefield, too. Zangetsu doesn't lead Ichigo through his life and Ichigo doesn't drag Zangetsu behind him.
Oh, and one more thing:
This
is Sode no Shirayuki. So is this.
Before Byakuya removed Rukia's powers from Ichigo, Zangetsu was still sleeping, for lack of a better term.
This is the first time we see Zangetsu after Ichigo's own powers have been awakened.
Why he looks like Sode no Shirayuki, I could not begin to guess.
And in closing, a couple gratuitous pics of Zangetsu.
And the scene that made me fall in love with him:
Okay, next is Zabimaru. He's not especially different from Renji. They're both stubborn, violent, overprotective, fiercely loyal and half-tamed at best. But Zabimaru is more practical and more...emotionally aware. I'm pretty sure that's not the right term for what I'm thinking but it's the best I can do right now, so we'll go with it. Basically, where Renji will lie to himself about his thoughts, feelings and motivations, Zabimaru won't. And he'll call bullshit on Renji if he thinks he needs to. Not much else to say, really, so on with the pictures!
This, if memory serves, is the first good look we get at Zabimaru's spirit form.
