I've been having problems writing lately. It started, hmmm, about six or seven days ago. It's not a problem with ideas, as I'm currently playing host to the plot bunny spawning run, yet again. I just can't seem to make the ideas translate properly. I can't write, dammit, and it's been driving me crazy.
I normally get like this for a little while after I finish a big project, but I couldn't think of anything that would have triggered this state until today. Y'all know what wrapped six days ago around here? That's right, the drabble request thingy. To give you an idea of why this would offline my writing abilities at the same level as a major project, let's look at some numbers, here.
I received 34 prompts, 33 of which are finished. The last one has turned out to be considerably more than a drabble and, like I said, I haven't been able to write lately. Here's how it breaks down:
15 Bleach prompts, for a total word count of 3,098
5 Saiyuki prompts, for a total word count of 1,077
5 Transformers prompts, for a total word count of 1,434
5 crossover prompts, for a total word count of 1,545
2 TMNT prompts, for a total word count of 831
1 Detective Conan prompt with a word count of 236
=33 finished ficlets with a total word count of 8,221.
Shattered, the fourth chapter of the Ichigo and Zangetsu set from the Zanpakutou Chronicles, (that's the chapter that had to be split up over three separate entries, four with the extras.) clocked in at 8,273 words and was on the books for nearly three months from the first words being put down until the day it was posted. Granted, it was only my top priority for about the last month and a half to two months, but I had worked on it off and on until then.
These drabbles produced the same level of output as my longest story to date. They were spread across six different fandoms. They occasionally called for unfamiliar characters. They had to have at least an element of the given prompt in them every time. And I did this in only six days.
Duh, Zan. If that doesn't count as a major project, then what the hell does? This is normal. This is okay. Just stop pushing so hard and it'll all come back naturally. You know it will. Meanwhile, lay off the damn panic button.
I swear, sometimes I really am an idiot...
