I had a fun moment today talking to coworkers about current events.

I sat down to lunch with them and didn't have anything to say about the first several conversations they had, so didn't say anything, just sat quietly and ate.

Then one of them looked over at the TV, which was showing Obama and Hillary together with the "Democrates unite" statement, and commented how annoyed she was that Hillary was up there (in the anti-Hillary way, not the anti-Obama way). She commented that it was a horrible mistake for Obama to have her up there, and I pitched in with all the reasons why it was a good idea, and the statement that the people he'd lose by doing it was nothing compared to how many he'd win, and the fact that the people he'd win have to be won now, while the people he'd lose he could get back later. Nice lively discussion.

Then the TV changed to be about the stock market being a bear market, and people asked what that meant, so I commented that it meant that it was down 20% from the previous high point- the Dow had once hit ~14,000 and is now at ~11,300. I commented that it'd dropped 3% yesterday and another 1% today.

Then the "What's all this about the tomatoes" came up- I explained that the current theory was that in either Florida or Mexico, farmers put tomatoes warmed from the sun in cold water, which caused the water to be sucked inside the tomato, tainting them.

At this point I totally felt like I was being awesome at current events, and asked them to keep the questions coming, but then conversation turned to a coworker's last day so we chatted about that instead.
