This is where I met you. In these long, narrow hallways jammed with hundreds of students. I saw you shoved against a locker, vile threats being spat at you, but you didn't even flinch. I saw the hurt in your eyes though. I saw how broken you were. That was when I knew I had to have you.
This is where you first came to me, helplessly tossing pebbles at my window, tears streaming down your soft features. I took you in and fixed you, patched your wounds and caressed you, saying it would all be okay. That was when I knew I loved you.
This is where I first kissed you, alone and secluded except for the broken blades of grass and brush. I saw your eyes swimming again, but this time, instead of pain, I saw hope. That was when I knew, it would be okay.
This is where I fought you, yelling that all he was doing was hurting you, that all he would do was hurt you. I screamed at you, begging for you to come with me, far, far away where nobody could ever hurt us again. You fought back, saying he wouldn't hurt you anymore, that it was the only way he could prove he loved you. That was when I lost hope.
This is where you lay, broken and bleeding because of me. You called over and over, leaving tear-choked voicemails, but I never answered them. Not once. Across from you he lays, covered in vile, dead from intoxication. Numbly I weep, caressing your heavy form. Next to your body lies a note, stained with blood. Scribbled in ink reads three simple words. Three words you'd never said and would never say again.
'I love you.'
