My oldest gets out at 3:35, and he's in 2nd grade.

yes, but elementary schools start later in the morning. my high school started at 8 and ended at 3:15, and we had the longest school day of anyone i knew. we also had the most days off in the year. PA school requirements are based on hours spent in school, not days, so we could have long breaks as long as we had long days...

My HS we had 7th period end at 2:30, and extra-curriculars ended at 3:15. Lots of schools around here end at 1:30 though, it's really bizarre to me. I wonder how early they start; I think I started at 8:15.

i think there was the occasional 8th period, but it was very occasional and extremely avoided.
and yes, first period was 8:15; the doors opened at 7:30. i remember coming in often at 7:30, even on days where i had 1st and 2d off, and playing cards for three hours.

Yeah, the only things I ever had 8th period were Chorus, hence my calling the period extracurriculars.

Edit: Oh, and in 8th grade I'd come back to campus during 8th if I had swim at the College during 7th and then I'd catch the private bus home from campus.

Mine must have ended around 3:30, since I could get to a 4:00 job.
