At the end of last week, the Manitoba Public Health Division opened up the HiNi flu vaccines to all who want it, no restrictions. The numbers of at-risk population coming in to the flu clinics for their shots had dropped to next to nothing, so rather than have the clinics sit empty, Manitoba PH decided to open up the clinics to everyone. So, we were at the clinic this morning, 15 minutes after they opened.
From start to finish, it only took us about half an hour or so, including the manditory 15 minute, post shot wait (to make sure that there isn't an allergic reaction to the shot). Despite all the horror stories that folks are hearing about the shots hurting like ****, and my personal adversion to needles, I didn't feel a thing. The nurse I had was excellent, and gave a fantistic, pain free shot. I thanked her a couple of times. Himself's shot also went as well. Of course, 7 hours later, my arm is a little sore, but nothing out of the ordinary, for a flu shot that is.
So now I've had both my shots (seasonal flu and H1N1), and himself has had the H1N1. All I have to do now is get him to our regular clinic for the seasonal shot in the next couple of weeks. Then we're good for this winter.
Hooray for modern medicine.
