In an unexpected chapter of my imaginary Goodwill book, this week... Of the four days this week I have worked, we have had cops there each day. This is unprecidented.
Friday: A shop lifter under the influence of drugs, after many hours in the store, tries to swap out shoes. The supervisor that has been watching her tries to tresspass her. She becomes violent, attempting to hit the supervisor and successfully hits a regular customer. The police are called as she is escorted out of the building, and a sherrif arrives in less than a minute and a half.
Saturday: The morning begins with a sheriff alert that a fugitive is in the area. Somehow it is assumed she throws a bag of guns over our fence into our volkswagon sized boxes of recycling. Our electrical producer/co-safety rep assists manager and supervisor and cops by jumping in to find the evidence, though all she found was puddles. In the end the fugitive was found and arrested and a surprise bonus discovery of a homeless camp was made. our fence/gate had been damaged in the process.
Sunday: Apparently right at the end the storage place next door to us was broken in to and cops were all over investigating.
Monday: A car crashed onto the grass right at the edge of our building by donations. A supervisor went out and knocked on the window. The driver admitted the car was stolen and he had three prior accidents that day and would like an ambulance. He was promptly taken away and the car towed.
Tomorrow is the last day of my work week. I wonder if we'll get the hat trick and have visits all five days.
