It is probably inevitable that my commercial work would bleed over into my personal work... or backwards the other way.
It's been quite a while since I've done much in the way of nudes... in the last few years... I've photographed Bran a few times and my wife and that's it. Where I was living... was a very small condo... and there just wasn't room for anything resembling a studio. We moved to a house... For this photo... and all the recent portraits you've seen on fb... I have my living room looking like an actual studio (for this month). So... I've been able to play with my toys in a more orderly fashion and do some of the lighting I've been wanting to do. (There are 5 lights in softboxes for this image plus a background light.) vs setting up something and then having to tear it down immediately... the lights have all been set up and ready to go... so I can study what I got... and adjust etc. I've really missed having a permanent studio space... which I have not had since 2006.
oh I totally love it. sorry I should have effused more!
but I meant not just the technique but also the more (mythological? is that the right word?) feeling of it. this feels less like a portrait of a particular person (although of course it is) and more like she's representing some facet of human experience in a generalised way.
