Reid frowns, his hands coming up to Luke’s suit. His fingers curl around the younger man’s tie as he tightens it. “You expect to go out like this?" They had been invited to Katie's for dinner and after much begging on Luke's part, Reid had agreed to go despite his busy schedules tomorrow morning. "It's the middle of November, you're going to freeze your butt off."
"Maybe…” Luke mumbles more to himself than giving a coherent response. He begins to lack much common sense when Reid is this gentle with him.
It practically aches.
Reid raises his brow as he attempts to catch what Luke had said but decides not to dwell on it. He finishes with his tie and places his hands on his shoulders giving them a light squeeze.“You ready?”
“No…”
“No?”
“My-My collar…”
“Your collar?” He repeats his words as a question and gazes at him skeptically.
Luke nods, his eyes aimed at the floor. “I need you to fix it for me…”
The neurosurgeon lets his hands fall to the collar of his shirt when Luke slowly looks up at him. “Hey…”
“Hey,” Reid replies softly, not tearing his eyes away from the collar his boyfriend wants him so desperately to fix. “What is it?”
“I--I don’t want to go out anymore…” His voice is small and Luke begins to wonder if Reid had heard him.
“Why not?"
Luke just lets his head collide with Reid's shoulder and takes a deep breath. He can't really say why himself. Suddenly, a swell of emotions emerged from his heart causing his chest to tighten.
"Are you feeling alright?" His fingers bury themselves in his blond strands. "I know I'm not very good at this whole communicating thing but I can listen and 'pretend' like I care.
Luke chuckles at that, his arms coming to wrap around the older man's waist. "No," he whispers. "I'm okay, but thank you for 'pretending' to care. I just want to hug you, is that okay?"
"What-- Luke, of course it's-- Come on, don't be ridiculous." He presses a kiss to the top of his head and hears a faint sob. "Are--Are you crying?"
"No..."
Liar. Reid thinks. "Let's hear it, he demands softly. "What's with the tears? You're going to ruin our good suits, and you know how much I hate doing laundry "
"I love you." Luke looks up at him, " I really love you, You believe me, right?"
"The only thing I can believe at the moment is that you're freaking me out." His response comes out blunt but doesn't move to push him away. "I can assume we aren't leaving anytime soon. You can't go out like this."
"Reid I'm sorry--"
Reid holds his face gently and kisses him. "Shut up." He takes a hold of Luke's arm and slips off his shoes before pulling him back towards the living room. He sits him down on the sofa and then sits right next to him, holding an arm up.
Luke blinks, his eyes still teary. "What are you doing?"
"Bring it in. If you're going to cry about how much you claim to love me, let me console you properly."
"Katie told me you weren't a hugger..."
"I'm not, He confirms and pulls Luke down so he's against his chest. "But like I said before I might be willing to make an exception in your case."
